Western Mass Weather for December 19, 2021

CHRISTMAS SNOW TO RAIN POSSIBLE… ALL TRAVEL PRIOR TO THE DAY LOOKS DRY/FAIR… CLOUDS BREAK UP TO A PARTLY SUNNY DAY TODAY, BREEZY… COLDEST NIGHT OF THE NASCENT INCOMING WINTER SEASON TONIGHT… LOTS OF FAIR WEATHER THIS WEEK… 8:30am Sunday…

Good morning everybody, despite a few mixed showers in parts of northern CT early this morning, we’re slowly drying out as the back edge of the cloud deck from our rainy, icy, crappy mess of a storm continues to pull away.

Clouds should break up with time, revealing a partly sunny day with highs in the upper 20s to upper 30s from high terrain to valley terrain. In addition, winds will be present out of the northwest and gusting up to 30mph at times as high pressure moves in behind the storm, increasing the pressure gradient a bit.

For tonight, winds are expected to slacken, and skies should be mostly clear with lows plunging into the low teens. In fact, some upper single digits can’t be ruled out in northwesternmost MA and southern VT where some snow and ice accumulated.

For Monday and Tuesday, expect mostly sunny skies as high pressure rules our roost, and it will be seasonably cold with highs in the low to upper 30s.

Tuesday does look a bit blustery after a calmer Monday, with west winds gusting over 25mph at that time given that a Clipper low will be tracking well north of us.

Lows each night will be in the upper teens to low 20s.

Aside from a coastal storm expected to pass well south and east of our region for mid-week, we should continue to remain partly to mostly sunny with fair weather throughout the week, with highs generally in the mid to upper 30s and lows near 20º, so a seasonable weather week overall.

However, by Friday night/Christmas Eve, clouds could be increasing, and a Clipper system may be tracking much closer to us, and sending a warm front through the region.

This time around, there will be cold air already in place, which could help produce a front end burst of snow early Christmas morning.

However, this storm looks to pass north of us, which would mean a change to sleet and then rain on Christmas Day.

#whitechristmasforanhour?

I hope you have a good day today, and thanks for all the reports during yesterday’s lousiness.
