Good morning everybody, our low pressure system is due east of Asbury Park, NJ and south of Long Island, NY this morning and tracking a bit north of due east toward an area about 40-50miles south of Nantucket Island today.

The mid level low center is over western CT and will weaken as the morning goes along.

Additional snow bands are being generated by our surface low and hurled northward, which will continue through the morning hours, before we taper to snow showers and flurries by early afternoon, before the whole thing exits to the east before sunset.

Highs today will only reach the low to mid 20s, and northeast winds will be gusting 30-40mph for a time this morning, before slackening and backing around to the north and then northwest this afternoon and evening.

In fact, we measured a 63mph wind gust at Barnes Air Force Base in Westfield, MA this morning, which was not expected! Winds have been house-rattling at times overnight, but now are generally being measured in the 30-40mph range.

From reports I have seen, we have received about 7-12″ of snow so far across the region. It is snowing more heavily in northwest MA (northern Berkshires, western hilltowns, southern VT, southwest NH, etc.), with a foot of snow reported in southern VT areas like Wilmington, VT already.

As I mentioned, a widespread 10-18″ is expected, with 16-20″ possible in northwest, MA, SVT, SWNH that are seeing the heavy snow bands this morning (with some high terrain jackpot zones of up to 2 feet still possible). Also as mentioned, we might see more of an 8-12″ type set of totals in central/eastern Hampden Counties, northeast CT and southwest Worcester County where banding lightened up due to subsidence and a dry slot that affected the snow shield overnight.

Based on observations, it could end up being on the low end of those ranges, so when you combine them, a general 8-16″ region wide, but at this point, I’m going to let it lie.

We got a bunch of powdery, fluffy snow, with a true Nor’easter in southern New England, and while I will update a little later as the morning progresses (and while I will provide a comprehensive report this evening looking forward to the next 7 days), after a few hours sleep, I am going mostly enjoy the snowstorm this morning, sit by the woodstove, have some coffee, maybe make a vegetable frittata with my sweetie and her kitties, and be grateful for life and that I got to live to see (and report on) another snowstorm, and that I get to continue to be part of this community with you all. <3

Please post your reports below, take it easy removing the snow, bundle up if you’re heading out, take care on the road ways, and have a great day!

P.S. If my reporting and work is valuable or useful to you, and if you haven’t had an opportunity to contribute, I humbly and grateful accept donations in any amount, monthly or one-time, to support my work, as I am independent and backed by nobody except the folks I serve through my work (options at link below).
