[VERY LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS TODAY FROM A COASTAL STORM PASSING FAR SOUTH OF US… A FEW ISOLATED LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS IN THE BERKSHIRES, GREENS AND LITCHFIELDS TONIGHT… MUCH COLDER AIR AND WIND MAKES FOR A BLUSTERY MONDAY NIGHT… WINTER ARRIVES FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK, COLD/SUNNY TUESDAY, COLD AND CLOUDING UP WEDNESDAY, WITH SNOW BREAKING OUT ACROSS THE WMASS REGION WEDNESDAY LATE AFTERNOON INTO THURSDAY MORNING… HEAVIEST SNOW STILL LOOKS TO FALL ALONG/SOUTH OF THE PIKE… 6:55AM MON]

Good morning everybody, this report is not going to focus too much on the Thursday storm, as I want to focus on today’s event. I will update tonight with a much more comprehensive report on our mid-week snowstorm potential.

For this morning, our temps are in the upper 20s to low 30s generally, and snow showers are already starting to spread into the region. Our high temps shouldn’t rise a whole lot (if at all) from the current

By mid to late morning, we should see a more widespread light snow develop. There is some mix with sleet and/or rain possible in the river valleys toward mid day, but we should flip back to snow by early to mid afternoon, before everything ends by sunset, generally speaking.

It looks like we’ll see a coating to an inch of snow accumulation, with some holes (meaning, no accumulation) possible in the central/lower CT River Valley, and north of the Route 2 corridor, with up to as much as 1.5-2″ in the southwestern hilltowns of WMass, southeastern Berkshires, northern Litchfields, and northeast CT up into eastern Hampden County and southwestern Worcester County in the those high terrain areas.

Many primary road ways should remain wet, but some secondary and tertiary road ways could be come snow covered for a brief time by this afternoon, resulting in a few slippery spots, so something to be mindful of.

For tonight, west and northwest winds kick up behind this system, which is expected to curve northeast and become a super powerful low pressure system in the Canadian Maritimes as it phases with an upper low passing to our north and meeting with it near eastern Nova Scotia.

Lows tonight will drop into the low to mid 20s with winds gusting up to 30mph which will drop wind chills into the teens!

Tomorrow is sunny but cold, with highs in the 25-30º range with continued blustery conditions. Lows will plummet into the single digits to mid teens for the coldest night we’ve had since last Winter!!

Wednesday clouds up in advance of our incoming winter storm, and snow arrives by late afternoon into the early evening.

My thinking holds from last night’s report so you can scroll down and read that for details, but the bottom line is uncertainty still exists regarding how far north the storm track will be, which will affect snowfall totals across the region.

No question we’re going to be PLENTY cold enough for snow, no question this system should pick up and have ample moisture with it, no question that snowfall ratios will be high (somewhere between 10-15″ per 1″ of liquid water equivalent), and no question that the heaviest snow will fall along/south of the Pike.

As for actual amounts, I will speak more to that in this evening’s report, but for now still looks like a 3-6″ north and 6-12″+ south, to speak about it generally.

Have a great day, watch for a few slick spots especially if you’re up in elevation, and watch for my report tonight!
