Western Mass Weather for December 14, 2018

INCLEMENT WEEKEND OF FIRST RAIN AND THEN WINTRY MIX GIVES WAY TO A MOSTLY FAIR, COOLER UPCOMING WORK WEEK… (8:20am Friday)

Good morning everybody, hopefully you haven’t encountered too much black ice this morning (and hopefully you saw my quick post very early this morning).

SUMMARY
–For today, we’re initially drying, do freezing drizzle ends
–It will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s as a southerly flow develops, which may cause wind gusts to reach 20mph at times
–For tonight, patchy fog is possible, and rain showers will move north into parts of our region
–This storm system will be sheared out, meaning stretched and elongated so we’re not going to get the brunt of it
–Some rain showers are expected, tonight and into the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning especially along and south of the Pike down into CT
–Perhaps a tenth to a quarter inch of rain is expected at this time, maybe a little more in parts of northern CT. Lows tonight will be in the mid 30s
–For Saturday, we should be drying as the storm is shunted out to sea to our south thanks to incoming high pressure to our northwest
–It will be a mild, mostly cloudy day with highs in the low to mid 40s, with lows in the 20s
–A secondary low pressure system will better gets its act together on Sunday
–This system will become negatively tilted to our south and southeast, and gain strength as it tracks east of Cape Cod
–With colder air poised to work in from the northwest, and the storm’s ability to generate its own cold air and to also take advantage of some evaporate cooling as the precip first begins, this one looks more wintry
–Sunday morning looks dry, but by afternoon mixed rain, sleet and snow will be possible with rain south of Rt. 9, and a mix possible north of Rt. 9, especially in Franklin County, northern Worcester County, the Berkshires and up into SVT/SWNH
–Highs will only be in the low to mid 30s with lows in the 20s
–A coating to 2″ could be possible in these colder areas, so I will keep you updated
–Monday looks mostly cloudy with sunshine developing Tuesday through Thursday with highs only in the low to mid 30s

Have a great day!
