FREEZING DRIZZLE POSSIBLE TONIGHT… IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY, IT IS FREEZING ON SURFACES…
(7:30pm Thursday)
Good evening everybody, we’ve finally re-entered a patchy of atmospheric inclemency, although through the weekend, none of these precipitation events seems all that impressive.
Still, you don’t need much to cause big impacts as we saw today.
It’s important to note here that whenever you have an extended period of sub-freezing weather both day and night, and then get even a very light snow accumulation, it sticks and slicks up with great rapidity. This is what happened today, and is what contributed to numerous accidents.
For tonight, with mid level moisture having exited east of our region, there is only low level moisture left that is trapped closer to the surface. With no lift into any sort of snow growth zone, we are left with freezing drizzle in spots, and this could cause enough glaze toi cause driving hazards in spots, so be careful tonight, as lows drop into the low 20s.
For tomorrow, high pressure gets east of us and creates a southerly flow that should gets up to near 40 degrees for highs. A few rain showers are possible in the afternoon.
By tomorrow night, more light rain moves into the region, but we’ll have to see how far north it gets into WMass. The best chance of steady light or even moderate rain is in northern CT, and all of CT for that matter.
Rain showers continue into Saturday but should taper off as our first system moves through.
There looks to be a secondary low forming to our south, and this could bring mixed precipitation Sunday and Sunday night to the region. It doesn’t look all that heavy, with the brunt passing to our southeast where the storm tracks, but I will keep you updated.
Have a great night and travel safe!

SUMMARY
–Good morning everybody, Weakening low pressure runs up against high pressure tracking southeast across northern New England and heading out to sea
–This promotes a northwest-southeast orientation of the snow shield related to the approaching wave
–Snow showers and flurries are possible by late morning, and more likely by afternoon
–A coating to as much as 2″ of snow are possible across WMass, with lighter amounts in the CT River Valley and Housatonic River Valley, with the higher amounts in the high terrain of the Berks/Western Hilltowns
–Some snow showers are also possible in Worcester County, an a few coatings can’t be ruled out in the higher elevations in CMass
–Any snow showers will come to an end tonight
–However, as dry air moves in aloft, low level moisture may remain and could cause some patchy freezing drizzle, though this is a low risk
–For Friday, a few sunny periods are possible early, but more clouds than sun should rule the roost as our pattern changes up
–Expect highs to rise into the upper 30s to low 40s with lows in the mid 30s
–Low pressure makes a run at us from the southwest, but the rain shield should only get so far north Friday night into Saturday
–Right now it looks like it could nudge into southern VT and southwest NH with lighter amounts there, with more in WMass, CMass and N.CT
–It looks like a quarter to half inch of rain is possible, but still need to see how far north the rain gets
–Rain should taper off by noon on Saturday, and highs will rise well into the 40s, with lows in the mid/upper 20s
–Sunday is tricky as another trailing wave of low pressure could bring more of a mix of rain and snow showers in here for Sunday night into Monday but I will have to update this as we get closer
–Highs look to be in the mid to upper 30s for Sunday, so the super mild look of a couple of days ago has tamped back down a bit
–Early next week looks more fair at the moment with highs above freezing and partly sunny skies
Have a great day!
P.S. Tough viewing for the Geminid Meteor Showers, but here is some info in case you get a window…
