Good morning folks, I hope you had a nice weekend, as we fling ourselves into yet another week. Life is both short and long at the same time, which is a strange paradox indeed.

For today, we’ve still got this sit’n’spin weak low pressure area to our south that will slowly drift east, but will continue to send waves of generally light showers (occasionally heavier) into the northern CT, WMass/CMass region. As this flow moves into the SVT/SWNH mountains, additional showers may form there too.

After any morning patchy morning fog burns off, highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s under partly sunny skies with occasional showers here and there (and perhaps an isolated sub-severe thunderstorm), but a mostly dry day is expected.

Humidity will be present with dewpoints into the 60s, and lows in the low to mid 60s with patchy fog redeveloping, likely with more coverage than this morning.

For Tuesday, the weak low to our southeast finally pulls away and stops sending southeasterly flow into the region, as a warm front sweeps through from west to east and sets up southwesterly flow as high pressure starts to strengthen over the western Atlantic Ocean.

After patchy morning fog, that will burn off and temps will rise tomorrow, with highs in the low to mid 80s under partly sunny skies and some scattered showers or a thunderstorm will be possible. Lows will only drop into the mid to upper 60s as uncomfortable conditions begin in earnest Tuesday night when humidity will start to rise noticeably as we move into Wednesday.

Wednesday through Friday will likely need Heat Advisories posted (see attached Heat Index chart for Friday, as an example), and possibly a geographically small-scale Excessive Heat Watch as our Bermuda High sets up shop and pumps the heat and humidity into New England on strong southwest flow.

Highs will reach the upper 80s to mid 90s each day, and we can’t rule out some upper 90s on Thursday, which is the expected hottest day of this week. Lows will be in the mid 60s to low 70s each night, so it’s going to be a tough sleeping-weather week for sure.

In addition, we’ll have an upper trough to our northwest, and this will provide enough cooler air aloft to produce conditions for scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, with the main impact from those being torrential rainfall. With little wind shear especially in the Wednesday-Thursday timeframe isolated street flooding will be the biggest threat.

As we get to Friday, a cold front will begin to approach, likely passing through Saturday, so we may introduce some more wind gust potential in storms then, and can’t rule out strong to severe thunderstorms during the Friday to Saturday timeframe.

I will continue to monitor western wildfire smoke potential to impact our air quality as the week progresses, as well.

As of now, the cold front may pass through Friday night, and if that happens, the entire weekend could turn into summer bliss with highs in the 80-85º range, drier air on northwest flow and mostly sunny skies as sweep the muggy heat out to sea.

Early next week looks dry and mostly sunny for now with highs near 80º before a potential coastal low brings more rain by Wednesday.

Have a great day!
