Western Mass Weather for August 22, 2020

[SUMMER RETURNS THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH A CHANCE FOR POP-UP ISOLATED SHOWERS, DOWNPOURS OR THUNERSTORMS EACH DAY… A BREAK IN HUMIDITY AND HEAT ARRIVES BY MID WEEK, THEN WE RE-MUGGIFY LATE WEEK, THEN HOPEFULLY DRY IT OUT AND COOL IT DOWN BY NEXT WEEKEND… THE REMNANTS OF FUTURE-HURRICANE LAURA WILL LIKELY BE SHUNTED TO OUR SOUTH LATE WEEK… 7:05AM SAT]

Good morning everybody, we’re still here, hurtling through the Cosmos together, wheeeeeeeee!!!

After some patchy morning fog, any ground clouds will lift and we’ll see mostly sunny skies develop and humidity will begin to build, but shouldn’t be terrible. Highs will reach the low 80s in the high terrain and into the upper 80s in the valley locations of WMass and northern CT.

For this afternoon and evening, and for the next several, we will be dealing with a wavering frontal boundary in the region, along with a more humid air mass, so an isolated shower, downpour or thunderstorm will be possible this and for the next several afternoon/evening periods into early next week. Lows tonight will drop to either side of 60º.

Though a couple of days ago it looked like Saturday would be the hottest day, it is now Sunday and Monday that will bring the peak heat and humidity, topping out in the mid 80s to low 90s each day with lows in the mid 60s.

Dewpoints temps will rise by Sunday and Monday into the 65-70º range, so we’ll be stuck with stickiness, which stinks. Lows will drop into the low to mid 60s as the daylight continues to wane in our skies earlier each night.

For Tuesday, somewhat cooler temps will arrive with highs in the low to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies. Showers will be possible in the afternoon, once again. Lows will drop into the low 60s as we start to dry out mid week.

By Wednesday, humidity will be substantially lower and highs should reach the 75-80º range with lows in the upper 50s.

The late week period, in terms of specifics, looks uncertain right now, but some showers are possible and highs look to be mostly in the mid to upper 70s but we’ll get it refined as we get closer.

For now, have a great day, and be well!
