6:55A-FRI: HEAT ADVISORIES POSTED REGION-WIDE FOR ANOTHER HOT AND HUMID DAY ON THE WAY BEFORE THE WHOOSHENING ARRIVES SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY (SEE ATTACHED CHART)… AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM POSSIBLE TODAY, AND ESPECIALLY OVERNIGHT… COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH TOMORROW WITH SHOWERS AND STORMS INTO EARLY AFTERNOON OR SO… SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY IS SUPREMELY COMFORTABLE AND DRY… HUMIDITY RETURNS LATE WEEK WITH FRED’S RAINY REMNANTS … DHTWN’S LIMITED-EDITION DECADE-IVERSARY SALE ENDS 8/22 (NEW DESIGN)…
Good morning everybody, I hope you all have your power back on, that was a rough late afternoon for some of us, especially in southern Hampshire County and Hampden County, as well as some areas of the Berkshires, and I also heard that Northfield had dozens of trees down. Chicopee (Westover) clocked a 58mph gust, and Westfield (Barnes) clocked a 68mph gust, both of which equate to severe-rated thunderstorms. It is possible that a microburst or two was part of this mix, but even severe thunderstorm winds, if the gusts are broad enough, can sometimes mimic microburst impacts.
Regardless, yesterday’s experience made me realize that I need my own mobile app once and for all. It’s a daunting and very expensive (and very long) process, but I need to be able to have other ways of reaching you all, so just know that by end of this year at earliest, and more likely by sometime in 2022 I will plan on rolling one out.
Ok, let’s jump into the quick story, a message from my sponsor, and the discussion. And be sure to enjoy the attached chart which indicates that The Whooshening is on the way!
QUICK STORY
–One more wicked hot and humid day today as we achieve the third official heat wave of the 2022 warm season
–Highs will reach the upper 80s to low/mid 90s
–Dewpoints reach the uppeer 60s to low/mid 70s
–Heat Indices push into the mid 90s to low 100s (highest in the Springfield/Hartford heat sink
–Isolated showers or storms late this afternoon and overnight, some may be strong/severe, but less than yesterday
–Cold front pushes through tomorrow, brings more showers/storms, then The Whooshening!
–Saturday night through Wednesday is much drier, cooler, nicer, wonderful-er, and will help this writer to turn his frown upside down
–Late week humidity returns, with shower potential as Fred’s remnants get picked up by the flow and thrown through our neck of the woods. No wind expected.

DISCUSSION
After patchy fog burns off (I’m looking at you Orange, MA up into southwest NH), mostly sunny skies should develop thru the morning.
We could see an isolated shower or thunderstorm at any point, but much of the daylight hours should be dry. However, by this evening, a better chance of showers and storms moves in, with the highest chance for wet weather being overnight (sometime after 10pm and before dawn on Saturday morning).
Now, we can’t rule out a strong or severe storm given the high instability today, but we’re lacking the energy from the old Mesoscale Convective Complex like we had yesterday AM to juice things up to levels we experienced yesterday.
Still, keep an eye west, and I will too!
Lows will drop into the upper 60s to low 70s with very humid conditions continuing, along with some showers and storms around. This will be the final poor sleeping night for at least several days until late next week, so rejoicings can begin to abound!

For Saturday, a cold front will be pushing through the region thanks to a broad upper trough finally swinging east into southeast Canada and away from our region. The front will trail off of that feature, and swing much drier air into the region starting Saturday night.
But, as with most cold fronts, the clash of drier/cooler air behind it, with warmer/moister air in front of it, creates a clashing convergenze zone where air is forced to rise, take the moisture ahead of it and produce scattered showers and thunderstorms along it as it moves through.
So expect some scattered showers or storms during the mid to late morning and into the early/mid afternoon before it all sweeps out of here, with cooler, drier air replacing it.
Highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s, and lows will plummet into the mid to upper 50s, yahoo!
Sunday through Wednesday look beautiful. Dry, cooler, comfortable, low humidity, mostly sunny, highs mid 70s to low 80s, and lows in the 50s to low 60s.
Honestly, it’s the best 3 to maybe 4 days of potential hay making weather I’ve seen in a long time.
Then by late week, Tropical Storm Fred’s remnants get directed northeast into the northeast U.S., and so humidity increases but no heat waves are in sight, and some showers will be possible.
Have a great day, and please check out my offering below…
