As for our sensible weather coming up this week, we are headed in the right direction if you like Spring! I will provide sub-sections below for you to chunk things out, so take a gander and let’s get down to business!
SNOWFALL RECAP
While snow quickly changed to sleet and ice over the Litchfield Hills, Taconics, and Berkshires, the cold held longer to the east of the Berkshires and north of the Rt. 9 corridor. A coating to 1″ or so fell across those areas, but 2-4″ fell along and north of the Rt. 9 corridor, with the most in Franklin County, SVT (5″ in Halifax, VT!), SWNH and N. Worcester County. Below are some official totals, some of which were not updated after the steadiest precip stopped.

TONIGHT’s WEATHER
–Freezing drizzle and plain drizzle should stop after sunset
–Temps are still holding in the upper 20s to low 30s in the western hills, NWCT, SVT, eastern Berkshire County, etc.
–So, slick spots may continue in the high terrain, so slow-go it up that way
–Otherwise, roads are either a bit slushy, or just wet. I was on Rt. 9 earlier and it was fine
–Tonight, lows will drop into the low 30s. Patchy fog is possible early, and then drier air will work from the west with westerly wind gusts to 20mph in the high terrain
–Anybody have any tree damage in the high terrain today with southeast wind gusts? Let me know…
WINTRY WEATHER HOLDS MONDAY AND TUESDAY
–Energy and moisture will be swinging through the region west to east tomorrow, especially in the afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny on average, with more clouds over the high terrain and more sun over the valley floor #ThankYouDownslopingWinds!
–Highs will reach the mid to upper 30s in the high terrain and low to mid 40s in the valley
–While a rain shower is possible in the valley, mixed upslope snow and rain showers will develop over SVT, the Berkshires, Taconics, and western hills tomorrow afternoon
–Westerly winds will gust 25-35mph
–A cold front moves through and drops lows into the mid to upper 20s
–Any rain will change to snow showers across the aforementioned areas, and some fresh coatings are possible to pretty up the place
–Tuesday will be unseasonably cold, with highs in the mid to upper 30s and lows in the upper teens to low 20s under partly to mostly sunny skies

SPRING SPRINGS 2ND HALF OF THIS WEEK
–High pressure moves east through our region by mid-week, and brings a sunny day with highs in the low to mid 40s with calm conditions
–Lows Wednesday night will be in the mid 20s
–REMEMBER: We will be going through melt/refreeze cycles for many of the next upcoming days, so nightly black ice patches will be an issue for some through Thursday morning
–By Thursday, we are in a southwest, warming flow as high pressure scoots out to our east and produces partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, and lows in the upper 30s
–Clouds build Thursday night as low pressure races northeast through the western Great Lakes
–Rain showers, with some downpours, are expected late Thursday night and into Friday and Friday night
–Friday highs peak into the mid to upper 50s!! Buh Bye Winter…
COOLER NEXT WEEKEND
–A cold front swings through late Friday night and brings us back to more seasonable temps
–The weekend looks to feature partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the 40s Saturday and lows in the 20s, and highs in the mid 30s to low 40s Sunday
ONE MORE SNOWY SHOT LATE NEXT WEEK
–Computer model ensemble guidance continues to show a cluster of low pressure off the Virginia coastline for late THE FOLLOWING week (near March 21st)
–With high pressure to the north, and a dip of cooler air out of Canada, if everything aligns perfectly, we have one more shot at a coastal snowstorm for this period, before Spring arrives even more earnestly
–However, it’s a LONG way off, and so it just remains a potential that I will monitor through either impact or its dissipation into nothingness
DHTWN’S DRIVE ENDS TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT
–I imagine some of you are a bit tired of my asking at this point, but the fact is I have expenses and I spend a lot of my time and energy each year on being of service to you
–I have historically found that when 5% of my audience (about 1600 of my most core fans) contribute in amounts within their means (some modest, some not-so-modest), I can continue to prioritize this work and resource.
