TODAY’S DATE: Tuesday, February 22, 2022
Good morning folks, the first issue of the day is that we have some freezing fog noted in northeast CT and possibly a few spots in southern CMass, so watch out that way for slick spots. Other than that, we’ve got rain and wind tonight, near record warmth tomorrow, more wind tomorrow evening, and then a substantial snow and ice storm on Friday for the greater WMass region, but before we dive into the details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with a new location in West Springfield, MA.

DISCUSSION:
Good morning folks, my mind is boggled with the amount of varying weather we have coming up this week, and I will do my best to break it down by day and event for you below.

TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING
–We start off with a gorgeous sunrise as partly to mostly sunny skies begin the day
–Some freezing fog has developed in northeast CT but will abate. Still, watch for isolated slick spots.
–Then clouds will increase as our storm over Missouri makes a northeast beeline for the southern and eastern Great Lakes through the day
–We will become overcast and see highs rise into the mid 40s to low 50s from north to south
–Winds will be on the lighter side earlier on, but then should gust up to 20mph by afternoon, and then really increase into the 25-45mph range out of the southwest tonight, so unsecured objects may get clown about, but any outages would be very isolated, if at all
–First showers will arrive by early to mid afternoon, and then the heavier, steadier rain shield overspreads the region by early evening, and lasts into the pre-dawn hours
–Lows tonight will only be in the 40s and will then RISE by dawn and into the morning
–About a half inch to 1.25″ of rainfall is expected by Wednesday morning

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY SEESAW
–For Wednesday, the storm pulls away as it tracks well north of us up the St. Lawrence River Valley in southeast Canada
–The southeast ridge will still be in place behind the storm, pumping very mild air southwest to northeast into the greater WMass region, with highs in the mid 50s to mid 60s with increasing sunshine by afternoon!
–It will feel balmy with southwest wind gusts of 25-40mph ahead of the cold front that will hot (or cold?) on its heels
–So, get out and enjoy the few hours of it that you can, because said cold front will track through the region by mid to late afternoon
–This will kick our winds from the southwest around to the northwest, as Canadian cold air empties into New England Wednesday night!
–Northwest winds will gust 25-40mph, and low temps will crash into the upper teens to low 20s as we clear and dry out
–For Thursday, a pleasant late February day will look around and ask “what’s all the hubbub about? I’m a nice late winter day, very peaceful, calm, cool, collected. Let’s meditate.”
–Mostly sunny skies are expected, highs low to mid 30s, and lows in the low to mid 20s as clouds increase all over again

FRIDAY SNOWSTORM, SOME ICE SOUTH
–Then we cross from Thursday into Friday and we’ll be looking at a moderate to major snowstorm for some of us in the greater WMass region
–With very cold air already established ahead of the storm, as it tracks east-northeast through the Ohio Valley and toward the northern Mid-Atlantic coast, we will get a classic front-end snow thump as the warm front pushes close to Long Island, and frontogenesis commences (say that 10 times fast)
–So, expect a snowy Friday morning commute, as snow should be in here before dawn, with fresh accumulation on the ground when the sun rises
–It looks to snow all day long where it stays all snow, and should last into the night as essentially a ribbon of precipitation will form between colder/drier air north, and warmer/moister air south
–The snow/ice line will set up somewhere between northernmost CT and the Rt. 2 corridor, though I think it will end up somewhere around the MassPike
–Again this is a 6-10″ type storm where all snow, and 2-6″ where sleet and freezing rain occurs, but I will dial in totals as we get closer (those aren’t forecasted totals, just my early read)
–Snow will quit late Friday night, and a cold pleasant Saturday with highs in the 20s arrives
–Then more snow Sunday or Monday? stay tuned for updates, much to analyze and work through!

I hope you have a great day, and if my work is useful or valuable to you and yours, please click below to see the myriad of support options available during my 2022 Member/Supporter Drive. Thx!
