Western Mass Regional Weather Report for May 7, 2025

TODAY’S NUTSHELL: Our upper low is weakening and lifting northeast into northern New England, which will produce a mix of sun and clouds today as well as isolated to widely scattered showers and a couple of thunderstorms this afternoon, with small hail possible. Patchy fog tonight gives way to a partly sunny Thursday followed by showers overnight and a rainy Friday and Friday night, ending on Saturday. Sunday through Tuesday look drier, warmer, and sunnier as we turn the corner out of the dreary doldrums.

YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning folks, we’re turning the corner out of this latest bout of wet and damp weather, but we do have one more storm that will run through the region for late Thursday night, Friday and into the first part of Saturday before we can bust out into the sunnier and warmer days of this coming Sunday through Tuesday.
While some sun breaks out at times today, with a more fully party sunny Thursday morning into afternoon before the next cloud deck arrives, there is truly a light at the end of our rainy tunnel that arrives at the end of this coming weekend.
For today, our stacked upper low swings northeast into Vermont and starts to draw drier air into the region, but its cold pool aloft will also destabilize the atmosphere towards the afternoon.
We’ll see highs in the 60s to low 70s, and widely scattered showers with a few thunderstorms develop this afternoon. Some of these cells could drop small hail or graupel, and there’s a low chance that some larger dime-sized hail could develop.
For tonight, that activity winds down as the low lifts away and lows drop into the upper 40s to low 50s. Patchy fog will develop and may be dense in spots.
For Thursday, some fuller sunshine arrives at last!
It won’t last long, though, but the morning should at least be particularly pleasant under partly sunny skies with highs rising into the mid 60s to mid 70s (low 60s in the SVT mountains).
It won’t last long, though, as clouds rebuild in advance of our next rainstorm which will develop as a second (and for now, final) upper trough digs into the Mid-Atlantic region for Friday.
Thursday night will cloud up with lows in the 45-50º range and showers redeveloping into the region.
A surface low develops near New Jersey and tracks through RI and southeast MA Friday, bringing a rainstorm to the greater WMass region and it should be breezy and cooler with wind out of the east gusting to 20mph at times. Highs will only rise to the upper 40s to upper 50s, so a raw end to the week is on tap.
Rain continues into Friday night with lows in the 40s, and showers should wind down sometime on Saturday as the low pulls away from New England. Highs Saturday will reach the upper 50s to upper 60s, and some sunny breaks may appear late in the afternoon.
We’ll clear out Saturday night as high pressure builds into the region, and lows will drop into the 40s.
Once we reach Sunday, the pick of the weekend AND the week will be upon us with mostly sunny skies expected, with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s, followed by a sunny Monday and Tuesday with highs 75-80º both days!
Hang in there folks, our soggy slog is showing cracks in its rain-soaked armor.
Have a great day!
