YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning folks, we have a light wintry mix system moving through the region in the form of a warm front. This has already spread pockets of snow and sleet through the region (precip shield sped up overnight).
As we warm up into the upper 30s to mid 40s for highs, precipitation will reform as a secondary low tries to get going to our south by afternoon and we’ll transition to rain in many areas south of Route 2 and east of the western hilltowns in WMass, CMass, and much of northern CT.
It’s already above freezing in the southern valley, and much of the initial band of precipitation has moved through.
Please post any accumulations you’ve seen this morning after you read this, or pics.
The two main impact areas I see going forward today are as follows:
1. Eastern Berkshire County into the western hilltowns on north into parts of SVT look to hang on to cold and develop sleet and freezing rain later this morning into early afternoon, causing some slippery conditions.
2. Southeast VT into southwest NH (especially northern parts of Windham and Cheshire Counties) could see more snow and sleet with accumulations of 1-4” in the high terrain by evening.
Otherwise, a coating to an inch or so should do it for most of us and for many, whatever accumulation we get if any is through by mid-morning.
The heaviest and steadiest rainfall will be more in north-central / northeast CT, eastern parts of WMass (esp. eastern Hampshire / Hampden counties) and CMass this afternoon where over half an inch of rain may fall.
South-southeast winds may gust 20-30mph at times today.
Everything winds down tonight, with lows dropping into the low to mid 30s with patchy fog possible, and isolated slick spots north and west.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon may feature some light scattered mixed showers in the Berkshires, western hilltowns, and SVT/SWNH as an upper low lollygags around, forgetting it’s still hammered from the season before and should go home and go to bed… that Winter left the building, and really, it should as well.
Most of us should remain dry with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the upper 30s to upper 40s and lows either side of 30º, though some mid 20s may develop Wednesday night if we’re clear enough.
By Thursday, high pressure nudges in more firmly with highs well into the 40s with lows in the low to mid 30s, leading us to Friday which also looks fair and a couple of degrees milder with highs in the 45-50º range.
Next weekend looks inclement at the moment, with a frontal boundary setting up over northern parts of the WMass region with rain southwest and wintry precip northeast as the Battle of Baroclinicity continues to rumble ‘round the valley .
Please post any accumulations, road conditions, or weather reports below this morning or whenever you read this. Thanks so much.
Have a great day!
