YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, we’re already seeing showers drying up in southern VT and southwest NH, being pressed southeast into much of MA and CT, and that trend will continue this morning with scattered mostly light showers or drizzle that will slowly wind down by early to mid afternoon, earlier north, later south.
Most folks south of the Rt. 2 corridor have seen a tenth of an inch of rain or less, with about a quarter to half inch north of there overnight, with a bit more in spots.
This is a weak system with little lift, so for most of us, it’s a no-big-whooper, but I get that for most people, it’s Saturday, it’s showery, and it sucks.
This too shall pass, as my late father used to say, and it will… by 2:43pm!! ;-)
At least it’s not a soaker or a whopping set of downpours, but I digress.
Highs today will be cool, only in the low to mid 60s as taste a mid-June echo of the cold season that persisted late into Spring, as we turn to next week and the Summer Solstice.
Soak up the peak light, folks!! Be here, now.
As for the afternoon, showers wind down even through northern CT by mid-afternoon, but CT may still see a few scattered showers later this evening, while the rest of us dry out as high pressure tracks toward the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine. Lows tonight will drop into the low to mid 50s.
For Sunday, high pressure will be northeast of us, producing easterly on shore flow, and cool highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, but with onshore flow, sun will be harder to come by, but it should be dry. Lows will dip into the mid 50s.
For now, Monday through Wednesday looks warmer for sure, with highs climbing through the 70s Monday and reaching the low 80s by Tuesday and possibly the mid 80s by Wednesday, but I still need to sort out potential for some disturbances to approach the south coast, which could impact our sky cover, and either produce more of a partly sunny sky vs. a mostly cloudy one.
Lows in the upper 50s Monday night will crawl up into the low to mid 60s by Tuesday night and Wednesday night when clouds should start thickening due to a trough pressing into the Great Lakes.
That system has the potential to produce widespread showers and strong to severe thunderstorms by Thursday afternoon and evening, so that’s the day next week I will be focused most on, given potential for severe weather.
Humidity will be building by Wednesday and peaking on Thursday along with heat, as high temps may push into the upper 80s by then. That heat and humidity and pooling moisture may combine with an incoming strong cold front to produce some potent storms, so I will keep you updated on all of it.
By Friday, as of now, we may be behind the cold front and enjoying drier air and temps more toward the low 80s for highs, but a trailing shortwave may bring more showers by evening, so lots to parse out over the coming days.
The bottom line is that we dry today, we warm into next week, we see humidity increase by Wednesday/Thursday, and we have a strong weather potential to watch for Thursday.
Weather never sleeps. Have a great day!
