Western Mass Regional Weather for September 30, 2021

6:55AM-THURS: ON THE CHILLY SIDE TODAY AND TONIGHT, WITH A MOSTLY FAIR PAIR OF DAYS FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY… SUNDAY AFTERNOON, EVENING AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK NOW LOOKS UNSETTLED WITH SHOWERS AT TIMES, AND CAN’T RULE OUT THUNDER BY MONDAY AFTERNOON… HIGH PRESSURE RE-ESTABLISHES FOR DRIER, TEMPERATE CONDITIONS BY MIDDLE AND END OF NEXT WEEK… SOME OF US MAY SEE 70º ON SUNDAY FOR A DAY…

Good morning everybody, a few showers moved through overnight, and the associated clouds kept our temps from crashing into the low to mid 40s, with more mid 40s to low 50s out there this morning. We’ve got some dry, pleasant weather on the way followed by late-weekend atmospheric inclemency that will bleed into next week.

We’ll jump into all those details below like a programmer scanning lines and lines of code, but first let’s get a word from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo

SYNOPSIS:
–First of all, may things go right for you today, some how and in some way, that’s totally unexpected to remind you that good things can usually be found all around you.
–For today, we’ve got a bunch of mid-level moisture swirling about thanks to a giant upper level low pressure system parked right over northern New England
–This is generating some lift, much colder air aloft, and when combined with its associated moisture, we’ll see more of a partly sunny day today, with periods of clouds
–We can’t rule out a few afternoon showers developing in this somewhat unstable air mass
–Highs will only reach the mid 50s to low 60s by this afternoon, so instead of saying “STIFLE” to you like Archie Bunker said to Edith in All In the Family, I’m going to say “BUNDLE”.
–Yes, I’m a child of the 70s, and double yes, I’m progressively getting older and in the way… it happens
–For tonight, we chill out, dude, but frosts are not expected, as lows should settle into the upper 30s to low 40s, with a few mid 30s readings possible in southern VT, especially along the mountainous border of Bennington and Windham Counties
–For Friday and Saturday we’re looking pretty good for fair weather, as high pressure now centered over the Midwest will track east, helping to push our upper low out and over the western Atlantic Ocean
–Highs tomorrow will rise into the low to mid 60s under mostly sunny skies, with lows in the low to mid 40s under clear skies
–For Saturday, we should be mostly sunny, but there is a piece of energy that will be spreading into mostly northern New England with some showers up that way
–Highs will reach the mid to upper 60s as high pressure moves south of us, which will start a more southerly flow, and we can’t rule out a few light showers making it as far south as the Rt. 2 corridor and points north in SVT, SWNH and northern MA by Saturday afternoon.
–All in all, it deserves a no-big-whoop non-alert, if you ask me
–Lows Saturday night will be in the upper 40s to low 50s with a shower possible overnight
–The Sunday through Tuesday period is looking unsettled at this point, though uncertainties remain
–A shower finger will likely be arcing and pointing its wet plume into the WMass region by afternoon, representing the leading edge of warmer and more humid air that will press into our region by Monday
–This will help highs rise into the upper 60s to low 70s Sunday afternoon, with showers arriving by mid to late afternoon. Lows will be in the 50s.
–Sunday night into Monday night looks wet at the moment, and we can’t rule out some thunderstorms Monday as a warm front works through and/or stalls across the region, focusing moisture and rainfall over us
–By Tuesday showers should start to taper off and by mid to late week high pressure will build back into southern Canada to our northwest, and produce fair weather once again, with highs in the 60s for the most part

Have a great day, and I hope you have at least one good belly laugh!
