DISCUSSION:
May things go right for you today, in some way that’s totally unexpected to remind you that good things can be found all around you. #LonesomeBrothersReference
As for our weather setup, we’ve got a cold front laid out over northwest NY into northern PA, tracking southeast towards our region.
In the upper levels, we have a trough swinging in overhead, and a ridge west of us over the central U.S. with drier air positioned to move in behind the front.
As things unfold today, we’ll have a few isolated showers this morning, but most of the front-induced showers move into the region by early afternoon, lasting for a few of our afternoon hours, and should be out of here by around dinner time.
Highs will reach the upper 60s to low 70s under mostly cloudy skies, and this could be the last time we touch 70º for at least a week, maybe longer as a new early-Autumn pattern sets into the region.
Again, no frosts/freezes in sight.
We could also get a downpour or thunderstorm this afternoon, but best chance for that is south of the Pike, and especially in northern CT/RI.
For tonight, our cold front moves slowly through the region, and a north wind sets up, dropping our lows into the low to mid 40s, which if you ask me is woodstove-worthy.
For Wednesday, we’re mostly sunny, but we’ve got this upper cold pool that swings overhead Wednesday into Thursday, and this will help destabilize the lower atmosphere, giving rise to some fair weather cumulus clouds, a few of which may drop some light showers or sprinkles.
Regardless, we should be mostly dry Wednesday with highs only in the upper 50s to mid 60s, and maybe only the mid 50s in southern VT!
Lows again will be in the 40-45º range.
A reinforcing front brings a few showers on Thursday morning as it passes, and then a sunny morning into early afternoon should develop as colder air works into the region.
Highs will only be in the 55-60º range on Thursday, with highs in the low 50s in SVT and SWNH!
Chilly! Autumnal! Scandalous! Oh my!
In addition, the upper low will generate cold air aloft, and this will pop a wider field of scattered showers across the highlands of SVT, SWNH, the Berkshires, Taconics, western hilltowns and Litchfields, and some may survive the trip into the valley in the afternoon.
Not a washout AT ALL – Just a smattering of instability showers reminiscent of when we get snow showers during a cold advection day in the winter as colder air works in aloft with a little remnant moisture from a frontal passage.
Sometimes I forget, but then when I write stuff like that I remember that I’M A TOTAL NERD.
Lows Thursday night will be in the 35-40º range!!
While I don’t expect frost, we do have to watch parts of the southern Green Mountains that could start to approach the freezing mark, though I don’t think we’ll get there quite yet.
That’s the cold core of this first push, and then it lifts away Friday onward.
For now, high pressure dominates Friday through Monday with highs in the low to mid 60s under mostly sunny skies with lows in the 40s, but we will have to watch for a potential Sunday shower given some guidance’s handling of an upper low.
For now, it’s steady as she goes as we set sail into Autumn and leave the Summer of 2021 more firmly behind – a Summer many would rather soon forget.
Have a great day!
