Western Mass Regional Weather for September 2, 2022

Good morning folks, we’re starting off in the 40s and low 50s this morning, the coldest start we’ve had in some time, and there’s some patchy fog in the Berkshires. We’ll enjoy a pair of lovely days leading into the holiday weekend, and then turn things showery and cloudy for Sunday, and we even have a low chance for an extended and potentially more widespread rainfall Labor Day Monday into Tuesday with fair weather thereafter by mid-week, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, quite the chill in the air this morning! Dare I say there’s a small glimmer of hope for a more widespread rain Labor Day into Tuesday (probably a fool’s hope, as Gandalf The White from Lord of the Rings once said).

Since there’s a veritable potpourri of double–dashes between now and when we talk more about that potential, we’ve got to somewhere folks, so let’s jump in! #TappityTap

–Any patchy fog will burn off with time this morning, and chilly temps in the 40s will rise into the 70s under sunny skies with calm to light/variable wind today
–A huge dome of high pressure is sitting on top of the northeast U.S. and will slowly move east and off of the coastline by Sunday
–This will give us a pair of fair weather days with generally light wind, and another chilly night due to radiational cooling
–Lows will dip into the 50s with a few upper 40s in southern VT, with clear skies as well
–For Saturday, another sunny and calm day arrives with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s
–As high pressure moves offshore, a light southerly flow begins by Saturday evening, but we’ll enjoy another low-humidity day before humidity returns on Sunday into Labor Day
–Lows Saturday night will dip into the upper 50s to low 60s
–On Sunday, clouds will be increasing as a cold front works into the region from our west
–While we could see some scattered showers by Sunday morning, the afternoon and evening carries the highest chance
–Highs Sunday should climb into the low to mid 80s and humidity will be increasing with dew points rising into the 60s
–By afternoon and evening, we should see a better chance for scattered showers and storms, but with weaker wind shear, severe weather is not expected
–Lows will drop into the low 60s with continued scattered showers and storms, with heavy rain possible in a few spots
–The Labor Day into Tuesday forecast is uncertain right now, as some signals show the front stalling nearby, and potentially resulting in a more prolonged or widespread rainfall, or even periods of rain with dry spells in between
–Highs will be in the 70s during this period, and lows in the 50s. I will need some more time to refine this part of the forecast, but that’s how it looks now, with fair weather returning from mid-week and beyond

Have a great day, and please enter my 2023 Weather Wall Calendar Photo Contest below before it ends tomorrow, thank you!

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
