Good morning folks, we’ve got temps in the low to mid 60s, as well as some patchy dense fog out there so take it easy on the roads early.
SUMMARY:
We’ll have a big temp difference from southwest to northeast across the greater WMass region today with showers and thunderstorms by mid to late afternoon lasting the evening, followed by a few Tuesday instability showers, a mostly-fair Wednesday, more rain Wednesday night into Thursday, and much cooler and drier air by Friday into the weekend, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, I hope you have a great day today, or at least 5 minutes that make you smile, be it a present moment experience, remembering a dream or time in the past that was good, or something you are working on for the future.
As for our weather, we’ve got some dense fog in spots, and also have a cold front that is draped through parts of southwest NH down into north-central and EMass, which will produce a very large temperature gradient across the region today.
In fact, I anticipate a 20-degree difference in temps from say northwest CT and the southern Pioneer Valley (highs low to mid 80s in spots) when compared with places like Fitchburg and the Monadnock Region of NH (highs mid to upper 60s, and maybe some low 60s!).
This front will also cause any thunderstorms that develop ahead of an incoming disturbance to weaken as they reach toward CMass and eastern parts of southwest NH, but with a turning of the wind near that boundary, we have to watch for rotating storms, too, so a complex day is ahead weather-wise.
To dial it back and simplify, we’ll see any fog burn off, and then experience a partly sunny day on average in much of WMass, SVT and northern CT, though clouds will dominate once the afternoon wears on.
In southwest NH and CMass, and perhaps northeast CT, more clouds will dominate nearer to the stalling frontal boundary.
Highs will range from the 60s to low 70s near and east/north of the front, to the upper 70s to mid 80s southwest of that front (which will be most of us). It’ll be humid, too.
An isolated shower is possible this morning into very early afternoon, but it’s really by 2-6pm from northwest (Bennington County VT) to southeast (southern CMass/northeast CT) that showers, downpours and thunderstorms move into the region from our west as a wave works through the region.
Rain will be heavy at times, and a few storms may become potent with strong gusty winds.
This activity lasts through the first part of the night, and then we’ll see things taper off, with patchy fog late and lows in the 50s for most of us, with some low 60s in northern CT.
For Tuesday, an upper level trough will swing through the region to our north, and this will keep us mostly cloudy with a few sunny breaks, and also a few scattered showers at times, though much of the day should be on the drier side.
Highs will reach the low to mid 70s with lows in the low to mid 50s as we dry things out, and get ready for a quick blast of fair weather.
Wednesday looks very nice with partly to mostly sunny skies as we get some subsidence (i.e. sinking, drying air) between systems, with highs in the low to mid 70s.
However, clouds will increase before sunset, as a strong Canadian cold front careens toward our region, bringing more showers and a possible thunderstorm before midnight, with lows in the 50s.
It’s a fairly showery night into early Thursday morning as the front works through, then we clear things out with blustery conditions developing with northwest wind gusts ushering in cooler and drier air.
Highs on Thursday will only be in the mid to upper 60s, and lows will tank into the upper 30s to low 40s under clear skies.
Friday is Autumnal, in a word, with highs mainly in the mid to upper 50s!! Maybe a few spots eek out a 60º or 61º reading, and lows again will be in the 40s.
The weekend looks gorgeous, a touch milder, with highs in the 60s to low 70s which will be accompanied by mostly sunny skies, before more rain arrives Monday with another front.
Thankfully, the late week cold frontal passage will sweep Fiona AWAY from New England (though waves will be up on our southeastern coastlines), but if you know folks in eastern Nova Scotia or especially the southeastern part of Newfoundland including St. John’s, Fiona will be transitioning to an extratropical gale and will lash that area before blooming into a snowstorm over Labrador!!
That’s all for now… have a great day!
