Western Mass Regional Weather for September 14, 2022

Good morning folks, the showers, downpours and storms have cleared our region to the east, though a few clouds do linger in the Berkshires and a few other areas as drier air moves in.

We’ve got increasing sunshine this Wednesday with a bit of wind on the way for today, tonight and first part of Thursday, to be followed by more sunshine and cool temps, with warming over the weekend along with a few showers by later Sunday into Monday as Autumn only teases us late this week, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Well hello there! #SaidLikeObiWanKenobi #ANewHope #StarWarsNerd

Our bowling-ball upper low keeps atmospherically rolling east-northeast through northern New England and southeast Canada today.

While that system still hovers around our longitude, a few clouds may linger and/or develop this morning as we soak in its departing cyclonic flow.

However, the trend is going to be for increasing sunshine behind the first of two cold frontal passages (the first passage brought our showery/stormy conditions, and is well east of us this morning).

Between the two fronts, our highs will climb well into the 70s, but given an increasing pressure gradient with high pressure moving in from the northwest on the heels of our low center, west to northwest winds will gust 20-30mph today.

As drier air moves in and dewpoints rest to either side of 60º (as opposed to either side of 70º like yesterday), a few of the stronger gusts to 30mph may turn your head around, as JT has been known to say/sing.

Wind gusts should sit down later in the afternoon and evening before the second front moves through tonight with gusts of 10-20mph early this evening, and lows in the 40s to low/mid 50s from north to south.

Our second front then moves through overnight, and the humidity levels will truly plummet behind that front.

This frontal passage will also bring another pulse of wind overnight into Thursday morning with northwest gusts of 20-30mph.

Thursday and Friday will truly “taste” like early Autumn, which is just around the corner!

Under sunny skies and with very dry air setting in, highs will only reach the mid to upper 60s on Thursday with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s under clear skies.

Friday is a bit milder, with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s and lows in the mid to upper 40s.

By the weekend, Saturday will definitely qualify as the weekend pick with high pressure moving overhead and producing sunshine, before starting to track east and off of the eastern seaboard, with highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the 50s.

We’ll warm Sunday into Tuesday with southerly flow redeveloping, and we’ll also see humidity creep up along with some cloudiness.

Highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s during this period, and it appears that a couple of rounds of showers will be possible, but I’ll need to get closer to parse out the details and refine timing and potential.

Plus, it won’t be raining the whole time, so no washouts expected right now, although Tuesday may produce some downpours and thunderstorms.

That’s all for now… have a great day!

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
