YOUR WEEKLY WEATHER NUTSHELL

–An upper low in Maine swings a shortwave through with more scattered showers today, especially in the afternoon
–Graupel possible in some showers with very cold air in the mid levels
–Highs in the 50s, lows in the upper 30s to 40s, mostly cloudy
–More of a partly sunny Tuesday, and mostly dry with highs in the 50s to low 60s, lows in the 40s
–High pressure builds into the region mid to late week with more sunshine, light wind, and highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s Wednesday and Thursday
–By Friday, clouds may be increasing, and we could have some showers before sunset, though more likely at night with highs in the low 60s
–This weekend, especially Saturday, still is presenting as stormy in parts of southern New England including the greater WMass region
–A strong coastal low pressure system may blow up into a potent rainy and windy nor’easter and track east of Cape Cod
–This could bring a period of widespread rainfall, heavy at times, with wind as well on Saturday and Saturday night
–The storm pulls into Maine and Atlantic Canada Sunday, and with high pressure nosing into the region, a strong pressure gradient could produce a windy Sunday with gusts up to 40mph or so along with cooler temps into next week, but before we talk details let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in the Stop & Shop Plaza on King Street in Northampton, MA.

YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, we’ve got a mixed sky start with some pre-dawn showers having passed through and to our south, with some sunny breaks to kick off our Monday.
Clouds will fill back in with time as the surface heats and temps aloft become colder, which will encourage cloud development. Scattered showers will then develop as that gradient between milder surface and colder sky widens, encouraging rising air to coincide with a shortwave working south through the region.
Given the cold air aloft, we could see some graupel mixed in with any showers, which is an icy precip type that’s also called “soft hail”, and is produced when snowflakes get encased in rime ice.
They’re like little hydrometeorological presents that hit the ground and open up reveal their crumbly snowy bit insides.
They kind of look like the candy “Dippin’ Dots” which reveals my aging age that I even know what Dippin’ Dots are. Do they still make them?
Anyway, clearly I need some sort of stimulant (the legal kind, of course), so coffee will be up next.
Highs today will be squarely in the 50s, and we’ll see more clouds than sunshine. Lows will drop into the upper 30s to 40s as any showers dissipate at night under mostly cloudy skies.
Tuesday is our in between day with highs in the 50s to low 60s, along with partly sunny skies and a spot shower possible, with lows in the 40s.
High pressure tracks into the region on Wednesday, and will help produce milder temperatures with highs in the 60s, as well as a mostly sunny day. This will repeat again for Thursday, which looks to be the mildest and nicest day of the week.
By Friday, clouds will be increasing, as an upper level low drops into the MIdwest, and helps to spawn a coastal surface low center that could develop rapidly off of the Virginia coastline and track northeast to the Gulf of Maine by Saturday night.
This could bring scattered showers into the region by Friday afternoon or night with highs in the 60s, and lows in the 40s.
By Saturday, we could have a rainy nor’easter on our hands with windy conditions, especially east of the I-91 corridor. This could turn into a widespread rainstorm lasting into Saturday night so staying tuned for updates this week.
As the storm continues to develop and deepen into Maine on Sunday, we could see some strong gusty northwesterlies on the back side of the storm for Sunday with gusts over 40mph possible, so a dynamic weekend looks quite possible at this range.
Cooler temps are also expected into early next week, and a few mountain snow showers can’t be ruled out either, so stick around and I’ll keep peckin’ away at my keyboard with tappity tap taps, and clickity click clicks, along with more weather nuttiness for you and yours.
Have a great day…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
