Western Mass Regional Weather for October 16, 2022

Good morning everybody, the fog is dense at Orange, MA this morning and patchy elsewhere but it will burn off soon enough. We’ll be left with a mostly sunny, pleasant day, followed by clouds building tonight and intermittent showers tomorrow and Monday night into early Tuesday morning with fair and colder weather through Thursday and milder temps into next weekend, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local weekend sponsor, #YankeeMattressFactory, with their main headquarters in Agawam, MA along with stores located around the valley.

A NOTE FROM OUR WEEKEND SPONSOR:
DHTWN is sponsored by members, patrons, and Yankee Mattress Factory. Yankee Mattress is employee-owned, and mattresses are handmade locally in Agawam, MA. Several years ago I purchased a Yankee mattress and was very pleased with their quality and the buying experience, which was friendly and low pressure. Starting on September 1st and running through October 31st, Yankee Mattress will be partnering with the American Cancer Society to raise money to support breast cancer research and local services. A portion of each mattress sale will go towards their goal of donating $10,000 towards this cause. Visit the Yankee Mattress store closest to you in Agawam, Springfield, Northampton, or Greenfield, or click for more info.

***DHTWN DAILY WEATHER REPORT***
——————————————-
Good morning everybody, we’ve got one more rainy period to work through that is connected through our pesky, pesty, unrelenting upper level low over the Great Lakes which looks set to bring a substantial snow storm to parts of upper Michigan and adjacent areas.

No snow for us, however, as first flakes will have to likely wait until sometime in November given an expected trough west / ridge east pattern as we head into next weekend and the following week toward the end of October 2022.

For today, patchy fog burns off and we rise into the upper 50s to mid 60s with mostly sunny skies and clouds building tonight.

Lows will bottom out in the low 40s as clouds increase with a warm front approaching the region.

Scattered showers will move into the region Monday morning and should move through in spokes or waves of energy, sometimes not doing much if anything, other times mostly light to moderate showers.

Highs will climb into the upper 50s to low 60s under mostly cloudy skies and lows will drop to the low to mid 40s as a cold front approaches the region, with a potential wave of low pressure rippling along it as it does so.

This may gives us one last pulse of showers in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning, especially east of the I-91 corridor as things start to pull away to the northeast.

For Tuesday, after morning showers, we should get some clearing.

Behind the cold front it will be, well, colder for sure with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s from essentially Tuesday through Thursday with lows near freezing and potential for frost late at night. This is due to the remnant cyclonic northwest flow as the upper low finally tracks northeast and away up to Hudson’s Bay in Canada.

Thereafter by Friday into next weekend, a more west-to-east zonal flow will set up and our temps should moderate into the 60s by next weekend with fair weather to start the weekend, and a chance of showers to end it.

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
