Western Mass Regional Weather for May 27, 2023

Good morning everybody, fair weather continues with giant high pressure parked over New England and the northeast U.S., which will move east and bring southwest breezes for Sunday producing the heat of the weekend prior to a cool down into Monday/Tuesday that begets a heat surge into Thursday with temps in the 90s for a day ahead of cold frontal showers and a larger cool down into the first week June, but before we jump into the details below, let’s check a note from our new weekend sponsor, #RedFireFarm located in Granby, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, every now and again in New England you get these giant fair weather periods that last for days, and this one certainly is lovely for the moment with warm temps, dry air, and clear cool nights without a ton of wind, though it has been and will be breezy at times.

With El Nino setting up in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean between South America and Polynesia, that tends to produce less tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin, so hopefully we’ll see lower activity than we have in recent years, but we’ll see how that plays out.

As for our weather, it’s very stable at the moment with a strong Rex Block in position (high north over the northeast U.S. and Mid-Atlantic, and low over southeast U.S. with cooler/wetter conditions there).

Canadian wildfire smoke has been diverted away from New England, so it’s deep blue skies with a few fair weather clouds, and highs in the mid 70s today, lows in the 40s under mostly clear skies tonight, and highs well into the 80s tomorrow with sunshine. In fact, some areas may approach 90º on Sunday afternoon.

After Sunday night lows in the 50s, a dry cold front backs through the region, and drops temps into the 75-80º range for Memorial Day, with continued sunshine.

Tuesday looks similar temperature-wise to Monday, but by Wednesday into Friday temps are going to soar well into the 80s, and top out in the low 90s by Thursday as high pressure sets up south of us and pumps southwest flow into the region.

Sunshine will be abundant throughout.

By Friday, however, a cold front may move into the region and bring some showers after a very warm day in the 80s.

This likely cools us down into the first weekend of June, and may set up the potential for a few more showers as an upper trough tries to set up over our region, after being established in the southeast U.S. states for many days.

In other words, it doesn’t appear like we’re going to launch into hot summer conditions, and I certainly don’t see any big humidity surges or severe weather outbreaks.

This atmospheric stability is impressive for this time of year, and this writer is enjoying this rare calm between stormy periods.

I hope you have a great day, and I want to let you know that given this stable atmosphere, I am planning on taking a needed break Monday through Wednesday from reporting.

I need to catch up on some sleep, so I will be reporting tomorrow morning, tomorrow late afternoon, and then will be back on Thursday morning, with possibly an update Wednesday evening about the late-week heat and change in weather conditions.

Uncle Davey needs some sleep and to remember what it’s like to not wake up to an alarm every single day. :-)

BE KIND
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
