YOUR WEEKLY WEATHER NUTSHELL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
–Rain showers with some patchy fog continues this morning
–Flood Watches have been dropped, but remain over SWNH
–Flood WARNINGS are up for the CT River
–Minor flooding is expected to peak in the following locations at the following times, take note:
>>>>> Montague MA: 11pm tonight
>>>>> Northampton MA: 5am tomorrow
>>>>> Thompsonville CT: 4pm tomorrow
>>>>> Hartford CT: 9pm tomorrow
>>>>> The Mill River in Florence MA is near minor flood stage
–About 1.0-2.5″ fell overnight, and with more showers this morning, another quarter to maybe half an inch could fall into early afternoon before tapering off
–Highs will reach the 40s today, with increasing northerly wind this afternoon and evening, gusting 20-35mph at times
–We will dry out tonight with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s
–Friday looks lovely with highs under sunny skies in the upper 40s to mid 50s
–Clouds will increase at night with lows near 30º, and clouds will thicken on Saturday as a storm system’s warm front extends towards our region with highs in the 40s
–Rain and elevation snow arrives later afternoon and at night, lasting into at least the first half of Sunday
–This will be mostly a rain storm, but high terrain areas above 1500 feet in northwest MA, far north-central MA, and SVT and SWNH could see a coating to 3″ of wet snow at night with lows in the low to mid 30s
–Over an inch of rain is possible, but I don’t think that would be enough to cause any flooding issues, but we’ll see with this recent rainy period how ground soils and streams absorb new water by Sunday
–Sunday highs should reach the 45-50º range, and as the storm pulls away, incoming high pressure will pinch the pressure gradient and create blustery conditions Sunday night into Monday
–This should also allow for a few snow showers to develop off of the Great Lakes
–Lows Sunday night are in the 25-30º range, and highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s on Monday with continued windy conditions
–After that, the pattern changes, and we should see more sunshine and milder temps as Spring continues to surge into the region after a weak winter
YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, the Nutshell above will cover much of the morning report details for today, but the bottom line is that we will see minor flooding along the CT River today, tonight and tomorrow in MA and CT, and could see minor flooding with the Mill River in Florence MA this morning.
Rain will taper off by mid-day or so, and wind will pick up out of the north this afternoon and start to dry us out into tonight, and through tomorrow, which looks lovely! Pick of the week, I tell ya!
It’s Saturday into Sunday that represents our last storm in this recent stormy and Spring-y pattern.
It should remain just cloudy and dry into Saturday afternoon, but timing is uncertain in terms of rain and snow onset, so I will need to refine this as we get closer.
This does look like a great northern New England snowstorm, so if you are a skier, you’re gonna have to head NORTH for Sunday and Monday skiing.
For us in the WMass region, some high terrain areas in northern MA, SVT and SWNH could see a coating to 3″ Saturday night into Sunday morning, but it’s mostly a rain event for much of the region.
Sunday afternoon, night and Monday look blustery and cold with northwest winds kicking up, and possibly streaming in some lake effect snow showers, so additional coatings are possible.
Next week looks like another episode of “The Mildening” into the region, with more in the way of sunshine, so there’s literal light at the end of this rainy tunnel we’re almost through!
Have a great day, and if my work helps you, please help keep it going throughout 2024… it’s your support that keeps me on this job for you and yours (options include Cards, PayPal, Venmo, or Check, thank you!)

>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
