–Morning snow showers in SVT, the Berkshires, northern Litchfield County and some western hilltowns into central and western Franklin County abates by noon-ish
–A few spots may dust over as these move through
–Thereafter, a partly sunny day awaits us with afternoon bubbling clouds and a spot rain or snow shower possible
–Highs will reach the upper 30s to mid 40s
–Northwest winds will gust 20-30mph at times
–Clouds increase tonight ahead of a weak wave that will push some snow showers into the region, mostly west of the I-91 corridor
–Additional liight accumulations of a coating to an inch or so are possible overnight with snow-to-liquid ratios (SLR)
–Lows will dip to the upper 20s to low 30s with breezy conditions
–On Wednesday, morning snow showers quit and a southwest flow develops ahead of a more robust shortwave that will pass to our north Wednesday night
–This will bring temps up into the 40s for highs with westerly gusts up to 25mph at times
–It will be partly sunny, but clouds will increase as the wave approaches
–By late afternoon into the evening, a period of scattered rain and snow showers will move into our region ahead of a cold front
–An additional coating to 3″ of snow is expected from this activity in the northern Berkshires, northwest hilltowns and SVT as much colder air sweeps into our region

–By Wednesday night, lows will drop into the low to mid 20s with snow showers in the high terrain, and northwest winds will pick up and gust 25-40mph at night
–Winds will increase to 30-45mph on Thursday after wind chills in the single digits and teens early Thursday morning, so bundle up!
–Highs will only reach the low to mid 30s on Thursday with wind chills frequently in the 20s, so it’s a full on winter day, but at least it will be partly to mostly sunny
–Lows will drop into the upper teens to low 20s with continued breezy conditions and wind chills into the teens at least
–High pressure moves in on Friday, and clears out skies out with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid 30s to low 40s
–However, clouds will increase by evening, and we should see rain and snow developing at night with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s
–A coastal storm will be tracking northeast out of the Mid-Atlantic region Friday night and with antecedent cold air in place, we should all start as snow, and light accumulations are possible before a mix with rain in the valley
–Depending phasing of the trough with thee coastal low, and track of coastal surface low, a light to moderate snowfall is possible for high elevation folks into Saturday, so stay tuned for updates
–The valley likely goes to rain by Saturday morning, but I will keep monitoring and and provide updates as we get closer
–Precipitation quits Saturday night and should lead us into a breezy and mostly sunny Sunday with highs in the 35-40º range, with similar conditions next Monday

YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, the Nutshell handles the details of what’s upcoming for our colder, more dynamic, and slightly unstable pattern that we’re in, but the bottom line is that we’ve got a weak wave tonight with some snow showers, a stronger but still smaller wave with a cold front moving through tomorrow afternoon and evening, a blustery and cold Thursday with a bigger storm potential Friday night into Saturday.
Between this morning, tonight, tomorrow night and Friday night into Saturday morning, some areas of southern VT into western Franklin County and the northern Berkshires could pick up 2-6″ of snow, and maybe a bit more, so skiing is not over, I do not believe. Snow-making, should slopes choose to produce it, will be supported by cold night time temperatures.
This week, we’re under the influence of a colder, upper trough over southern Canada and the northeast U.S. which will help guide these two waves tonight and tomorrow night into and through our region, followed by high pressure Friday and another trough and coastal low moving in for Friday night into Saturday.
I will update with more detail by this evening regarding our 3-system setup, and the blustery Thursday that will be inserted between our modest meteorological activity.
There is still uncertainty about Friday night into Saturday, so I will continue parse the incoming info, as that storm is not a lock by any means, given uncertainty around interactions between all of the atmospheric players involved.
Have a great day, and if you’re able and want to see my work continue here throughout 2024, it’s your modest support that keeps me on this job for you and yours (options include Cards, PayPal, Venmo, or Check, even $10 helps!)
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
