TODAY’S DATE: Thursday, June 9, 2022
Good morning folks, we’ve got showers, some heavy, continuing throughout the greater WMass region, and I’m watching an area of strong thunderstorms in southwest CT destined for the Springfield/Hartford corridor and points east. After that, we dry out by late morning into early afternoon with a few remnant showers/storms. Then we setup for a gorgeous and sunny Friday in advance of a generally inclement, occasionally showery Saturday through Monday period, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with a new location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, this morning’s rain storm has dropped almost an inch in some areas, less in others, and rain continues to fall.
We do have an area of thunderstorms that will more likely than not float over north-central CT up into the Springfield area and points east of there.
A few other thunder rumbles are possible, but overall, severe weather including a weak tornado is not expected based on observations and trends, but I will keep an eye on things and update if needed.
Otherwise, expect rain, heavy at times, to fall through mid-morning and then let up as this fast-moving storm cranks through northwest MA and SVT and heads northeast into northern New England.
Humid air is immediately behind this system, and may spark some additional scattered showers or a thunderstorm by late morning into mid afternoon as partial sunshine develops and highs rise up into the 70s to low 80s (though SVT may never see 70º in spots).
Winds will shift around from light east to gusting to 20mph out of the southwest this afternoon. We’ll clear out tonight, and lows will drop into the upper 40s to 50s.
Folks, if you’re looking for temps consistently in the 80s and 90s, it ain’t happening any time soon, that much I can tell you… 70s during the day maybe touching 80º, and 50s at night, maybe touching the upper 40s or low 60s is the general temperature range pattern we’re stuck within.
If you ask me, I’ll respond to such a temperature regime in June as my old reggae bandleader Mentos would say from the band New Horizon back in the 90s: “Yah, Mon”.
Friday will be another such day.
Gorgeous, sunny, high pressure, drier, highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the low to mid 50s with clouds increasing.
The Saturday through Monday period will feature a broad upper level cyclonic flow over our region (i.e. broad area of counterclockwise movement). This will feature a generalized area of weaker lift/rising air across the region through the first half of Monday which means pieces of energy will swing through at times, bringing some scattered showers, but no severe weather is expected, and it won’t be raining the whole time either.
Highs should top out in the low to mid 70s through the period with lows in the low to mid 50s. Saturday will be the cloudiest of the three, with more partly sunny skies mixed with clouds Sunday and Monday.
As of now, the two most likely periods for scattered showers exists for Saturday evening/night and Monday afternoon/night, but I will update as we get closer.
Fair weather returns for Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and, you guessed it, highs in the 70s.
Have a great day, and remember…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
