DHTWN’S WEEKLY NUTSHELL
–Patchy dense fog will burn off this morning revealing a mostly sunny and very humid day
–Aside from an isolated shower, we should be rain-free with highs 85-90º
–Air quality issues may develop for some given a plume of western wildfire smoke that will track east into our region, with heaviest concentrations of PM2.5 in northern New England
–Patchy fog again tonight
–Tuesday starts off partly to mostly sunny but an afternoon frontal boundary brings more showers and thunderstorms into the evening, with isolated flash flooding possible
–Wednesday into Thursday looks drier, sunnier, but still humid
–Thursday night into Friday morning features warm frontal showers followed by cold frontal shower/storms in the afternoon
–Hopefully this will clear us out for a potentially nice weekend, which we haven’t had in a while, but before we talk details let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in the Stop & Shop Plaza on King Street in Northampton, MA.

>>> MORNING DISCUSSION <<<
Good morning everybody, it's been a very rough stretch of weather and I've counted 23 new gray hairs, and 42 lost hairs to the dustbin of my personal hairstory (pun painfully intended), but forward we trudge into life together.
It used to be "if it's not the heat, it's the humidity!", and in 2023 it's "if not's the flash floods it's the wildfire smoke!".
All attempts at gallows humor aside, at least it probably won't rain today! We could see an isolated shower, but likely dry and we should partly to mostly sunny skies develop as ridging builds into the region.
Unfortunately we have more wildfire smoke with which to contend. Most should remain aloft, but some probably makes it to the ground, which has prompted the hoisting of Air Quality Alerts by the relevant Depts. of Environmental Protect, notably in southern VT and much of NY state - this could bleed into southern New England as well, so if you're sensitive to it or have pulmonary stuff, take it easy and stay inside today.
Highs will reach the 85-90º range, and it will be quite humid with dewpoints in the upper 60s to mid 70s - I'll be busy foraging for mushrooms that are growing all over me, wish me luck.
Mushroom frittatas for everyone! Mangia!
For tonight, more patchy fog is expected with lows in the 65-70º range with continued humid conditions, and presence of wildfire smoke.
On Tuesday, a frontal boundary will be sweeping east, though we'll start off with partly sunny skies and watch clouds increase by mid-day or early afternoon.
As the front moves in, we'll see a period of showers and thunderstorms develop, which should mostly be rain producers, so some isolated flash flooding issues may redevelop, but it shouldn't be a widespread issue. Highs will be in the 80s, with lows in the low to mid 60s as showers wind down.
Wednesday into Thursday early afternoon looks nice with highs in the low to mid 80s, lows in the low to mid 60s, and another reprieve from rainfall.
However, a warm front will be approaching the region from a storm that will pass to our northwest on Friday afternoon, and that will bring a period of showers Thursday night into Friday morning.
In addition, that storm's cold front will drag through the region on Friday afternoon, with more showers and thunderstorms expected.
Thereafter, I am cautiously optimistic about what may shape up to be a lovely weekend with drier conditions, mostly sunny skies, highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s, and potentially decreased humidity - what a concept! A nice summer weekend!
Well, I am not getting my hopes up given Summer so far, but it's a decent signal and I will keep you updated as we get closer.
Have a great day!
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you've got to be kind.”
