YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, the short weather story is we’ve got three more days of high heat, humidity, periods of sunshine, and periods of scattered afternoon showers, downpours and thunderstorms, a few of which may become strong to severe with damaging wind gust potential before a cold front moves through and sweeps the humidity out to sea for a few days.
Highs today through Wednesday will reach the upper 80s to mid 90s each day with lows either side of 70º.
Humidity will also be high with dewpoints in the 70-75º range in this strong southwest flow regime. For this we can thank a Bermuda high pressure system to our south, and an upper trough over southern Canada, the circulations of which join forces and pump the southwesterly moisture feed into New England, along with the heat.
This is why Heat Advisories have been hoisted for much of the region in MA and CT, as heat indices will crest 100º for the next three days.
All this to say be sure to take it easy if you’re heat sensitive and have that ability, and if you must work outside, stay hydrated and find a way to mix in cool-down periods to help the body manage this high heat and humidity.
Each afternoon, starting today, we’ll also see plenty of instability form at the surface and combine with plenty of moisture and strong low level lapse rates to produce scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms.
There’s no cold front to force the air to rise until late Wednesday (a/k/a “forcing”), and wind shear won’t be super strong, but it will all be enough to pop some activity, and some storms could become strong to severe with damaging wind gusts possible and torrential rain with street flooding as well.
I’m more concerned about Tuesday late afternoon and evening then today, but like I said, any of these afternoons could make the booms happen, although for tonight we could see some overnight storms and showers as well.
Wednesday night is when the cold front comes through, but I am hoping the timing it is such that the worst severe potential will not be realized.
Still, we can’t rule out some strong to severe storms by Wednesday evening.
Our cold front comes through, and may help make some showers last into Thursday morning, but clouds should be clearing on Thursday as our heat wave breaks, but more importantly our humidity wave will break!
Highs will sit in the low to mid 80s as much drier air rushes in out of Canada, and lows that night will be in the 50s. Please know that I will personally be making sure you’ve all opened your windows to let this MUCH more refreshing air into your homes.
Friday through Sunday looks like a mostly sunny stretch for now with highs in the 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s with lower humidity air.
The only ointment fly right now is a potential for a few showers on Sunday with a front nearby, butt otherwise, fair weather arrives Thursday through Sunday, and I can speak for all of us to say, we can’t wait (but, of course, we will).
Have a great day!
