WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, we still have several hundred households in the Berkshires without power this morning, likely in that West Stockbridge to Lenox area where that severe storm developed such a strong wind field.
I heard that there were numerous trees down at Tanglewood, can anyone corroborate that report?
Anyway, that was a tough day for some in the central/southern Berkshires and into southwest Hampshire County and Hampden County, with some other damage pockets in northwest and northeast CT.
Click here for the Pioneer Valley and CT reports.
Click here for the Berkshire and Litchfield County reports.
Meanwhile, Franklin County is asking “what the heck are you talking about?”. You can substitute heck with your fave word of choice.
But, that’s summer convective weather. Some are dry, some have trees down on their homes, and Franklin County up into the Brattleboro/Keene corridor was the winner in the Rain Dearth Zone (RDZ).
Anyway, moving on we’ve got a lovely and very warm day today with humidity hanging on early, but lowering later in the afternoon.
Light west wind, mostly sunny, highs 80s for most of us, and some low 90s down near Hartford, CT.
For tonight, clouds build and a shortwave approaches, bringing some scattered showers overnight, maybe a rumble of thunder, nothing severe expected. Lows will drop into the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Enjoy the full Buck Moon tonight, and I just found out it’s also called the Thunder Moon! Wait, that only excites me?
It rises at about 9:00pm, and you can get more info about it by clicking on this link to Space.com’s article.
For Thursday, we should be waking up to some scattered showers, and some may be on the heavier side.
And while Thursday should be a partly sunny day on average, the early to mid morning, and then later in the afternoon periods should feature more clouds.
Highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s, and after a lull following our morning showers, additional scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon, but while an isolated strong storm may develop, these should be more like slow-moving rainers, without much steering wind, or wind shear to work with to develop stronger updrafts (and downdrafts) like we saw yesterday.
Showers and storms quit Thursday night with lows in the mid to upper 50s behind another frontal boundary.
Friday and Saturday look lovely, with mostly sunny skies and lower humidity. Highs Friday are in the upper 70s to mid 80s with lows in the 50s, and Saturday will see highs well into the 80s with lows in the low to mid 60s.
Then the Sunday through Monday period arrives. This will feature an increase in humidity and surface moisture, although Sunday should be dry for much of the day.
Temps will be very warm, reaching into the mid to upper 80s as humidity increases, and we could see some scattered showers or a thunderstorm later Sunday afternoon, and certainly by Sunday evening. Lows dip to the low to mid 60s overnight.
An upper trough will move toward the region for Monday, and this should help drive copious moisture into the New England region, and also provide plenty of lift in the atmosphere.
The hope is that we are looking at a stratiform, widespread rainfall on Monday.
I don’t want to get our hopes up, but that’s how it looks right now, so let’s continue to think positively about it, and help bring into reality, because we need such a rainstorm.
Fair weather should return by Tuesday with seasonable high temperatures in the 80s.
Have a great day, stay tuned to the page today for updates, and remember…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
