YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, our moist muggy mass of air continues to foist its sleepy spells upon all of us, making me hoist my lazy malaise up to the level of my bed where I’d rather be right about now.
Yes, I’m a big baby when it comes to this kind of weather, I know there are farmers out there doing the real work and not complaining at all, and my sweaty hat goes off to them every day, we’re so lucky we live where we live!
As far as today is concerned, we do have an elevated risk of isolated severe storms, mostly west of the I-91 corridor in the Berkshires and northwest hilltowns in Hampshire/Franklin Counties, but especially so in southern VT into western parts of SWNH.
Most of the action is going to be over NY state and central/northern VT where tornadoes are fairly likely for some today, along with other severe weather threats and heavy rainfall.
Because we’re well east of the Beryl’s center which will barrel northeast into the Canadian lands where most of The Band’s musicians came from (between Michigan, Ohio, PA, and NY), we’ll be further displaced from the better storm dynamics.
Still, a warm front will lift north through our region today, creating instability and a moisture increase, so a downpour or storm could pop anywhere across the region today, but again, best chance is west of I-91 in MA and VT.
Heat Advisories are up and heat indices will push the 95-100º range, with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s under mostly cloudy skies, and lows in the low 70s with high humidity throughout (dewpoints in the low to mid 70s).
After some patchy fog tonight, we’ll enter a drier (rain-wise) flow tomorrow/Thursday with highs in the 80s and a shower or storm possible amidst a mostly dry day, albeit quite humid. Lows drop to 65-70º.
Friday should start off with at least partial sunshine and highs will rise into the low to mid 80s, but a system will be developing to our south and come north to interact with a nearby frontal boundary.
The trend for rain impacts has been more to the south and east, so areas north of the Pike in WMass and CMass may see some light rain showers later Frtiday into Friday night and early Saturday, but heavier rains may be relegated to southern MA east of I-91 and north-central and northeast CT where up to an inch of rain may fall.
Lows will be in the 60s, and showers (where they fall) should wind down late Friday night into Saturday morning.
As that system pulls away to the east, a fairly nice weekend will show up, but the westerly flow behind that system will be very warm to hot by Sunday.
We’ll rise well into the 80s on Saturday under partly sunny skies, and then the mid 80s to low 90s by Sunday under mostly sunny skies. Humidity will still be noticeable, but hopefully tamped down a touch with dewpoints in the 60s vs. the 70s.
By early next week, we’ll see other disturbances work into our renewed hot and humid air mass with highs in the 85-90º range, dewpoints cresting 70º again, and scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms likely.
However, by Wednesday, it looks like a sharp cold front will be pressing into New England by afternoon.
While this could produce a final squall line of strong to severe thunderstorms, it also represents a total air mass change, and the arrival of much drier air (dewpoints in the 50s), and lower air temps as well with fair weather expected late week and possibly into the following weekend.
I know I am getting ahead of myself, but the signal for a giant, sprawling, potent Canadian high to spread into our region from the northwest is looking particularly tasty at the moment, and this writer is mentally salivating at such a meteorological prospect.
I will update later re: any storm activity, and I hope you have a great day!
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
