YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, a fairly dry cold front passed through last night and now we have west-northwest winds picking up behind it, which will continue to develop as the day develops with gusts generally in the 20-35mph range and highs in the mid to upper 20s under partly sunny skies.
In addition, we have lake effect snow showers that continue to land and die out in southwest VT and the Berkshires with additional light accumulations overnight.
There are portions of the Berkshires and southwest VT right now that are a complete winter wonderland, but you wouldn’t know it in other parts of the WMass region!
As a quick aside, I have been getting a number of questions about what lake effect snow means, so I will put together a separate evening detailed post in the upcoming several days solely about this phenomenon which tends to graze our western high terrain and even the valley from time to time, as I expect another round of lake effect the latter half of next week.
Moving forward, what looks like a “3-lake” or “multi-lake” plume of lake effect snow showers will reinvigorate behind this cold front and push some more snow showers (some may be on the heavier side) back into the Berkshires, northwest CT and southwest VT late this afternoon and this evening, and a few may make it into the valley.
A fresh coating to an inch or two is possible in some spots overnight, with lows in the mid teens to low 20s (which would be in the single digits if no wind was present overnight, as it will be breezy).
A final weak wave moves through Sunday with some flurries possible, otherwise it will be partly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 20s with breezy conditions, and lows in the teens.
On Monday, a few snow showers are possible in parts of northern CT from a storm passing south of us, but likely we all remain dry, and move into a few days of dry, breezy, cold, partly sunny conditions with highs in the 20s and lows either side of 10º.
By mid to late week, the lake effect snow machine kicks on again behind the departing Monday night storm which will bring a plowable snowfall to the Mid-Atlantic region to our south.
This means more Berkshires snow showers, and daily light accumulations are possible, but I will update on that as we get closer.
Have a great day!
