YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning, folks, we’re still stuck in the middle between strong low pressure to our northeast and high pressure to our southwest, which keeps a tighter pressure gradient over the greater WMass region.
This means more westerly wind gusts today, but not as strong as yesterday with an expected range of 20-35mph, with some 40mph peak gusts possible (we’ve already seen a couple since midnight). Wind chills will dip to the upper teens to mid 20s later this afternoon.
In addition, we still have some lingering lighter snow showers in southern VT and parts of the Berkshires, and those areas will see some scattered snow showers at times today.
I just received a report of 5” in northern Berkshire County. How much snow did you get?
Highs will reach the 30s with some upper 20s in SVT, and we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds. Lows will dip to the mid-teens to low 20s as colder air moves in overnight.
Blustery conditions will continue this weekend with gusts as high as 30mph, maybe a little more, along with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 20s both days, along with some more lake effect snow showers in the Berkshires, western hilltowns and SVT. In fact, a few may make it to the valley, and some fresh coatings are possible by Saturday night in the high terrain. Lows will be in the teens both nights.
On Monday we will cloud up, especially south of the Rt. 2 corridor, and highs will only be in the 20s. I will be watching a moderately-impactful snowstorm sliding south of us, with potential for some light snow or just a few snow showers south of the Pike. It’s hard to see how this storm comes more north, but I will update you over the weekend in case it does trend a bit closer to southern New England.
Otherwise, next week looks cold, breezy and dry with an average of partly sunny skies, and highs in the 20s and lows in the upper singles to teens through the week.
We’re going to need to see the shape of the giant cold upper trough change, and/or some of the upstream blocking features that have formed a Rex Block (high pressure over southern Greenland and low pressure over Labrador in Canada) weaken, ease up or dissipate before we can get a bigger snowstorm in our region.
For now, it’s mostly cold, dry and breezy. Have a great day!
