Good morning everybody, sorry for the late report, I needed sleep desperately and we had a friend come in from out of town, so if I’m honest, I was human and up late. Plus… if there was a storm today, I would have been had my post up much earlier.
The big cold was well-advertised, and it sure did arrive, with lows either side of 0º with wind chills down to 22 BELOW zero this morning!
Today is the coldest day of the new cold season with highs only in the single digits in far northwest MA into southern VT and parts of northern SWNH, with teens elsewhere. Does Hartford hit 20º? Maybe so, but it would be an outlier.
A frigid air mass is settling in for a short period of time, and winds will continue to gust 15-25mph at times, producing below-zero wind chills at times this afternoon, and other times in the single digits.
If Archie Bunker were a meteorologist, he’d have 3 words for us: WOULD YOU BUNDLE! ;-)
Very cold lows tonight in the single digits below zero to a few degrees above zero is expected, but at least wind should start to slacken. Still, it’s very very very cold today and tonight!
For Monday, we start off with sunshine but end with high clouds as a weak Clipper system dives southeast towards Vermont.
Highs will be milder, reaching the low to mid 20s with lows in the mid to upper teens as very light snow arrives Monday night, lasting into early Tuesday morning.
The steadier LIGHT snow should be located more along the route 2 corridor on up into SVT and SWNH where a few folks may see 2”, but most of us in the greater WMass region should see a coating to an inch in WMass, CMass and northern CT.
Light snow clears out by mid-day on Tuesday with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s and lows in the teens.
Christmas Day looks quite a pleasant early winter day, actually, with highs again in the upper 20s to mid 30s and lows in the teens under sunny skies.
High pressure will then dominate our weather as it passes into northern New England and southeast Canada late week into next week with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs well into the 30s with lows in the low 20s, with fair weather expected.
