YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, our storm was substantially weaker and more broad/diffuse than was expected, so even though the rainfall materialized with 1-4″ for many of us overnight, along with snow now falling, heavily at times, in southwest VT and the northern Berkshires and Taconics with some light accumulations, the wind didn’t develop, flooding was fairly minor if mostly non-existent, no thunder reported, and snow and outage impacts will be a bit less.
Regardless, there will be some slippery travel in spots in the northern Berkshires/Taconics and into southwest VT, especially up on the Searsburg Pass on Route 9 near Woodford.
For the rest of WMass region, this was always going to be a rain event, and rain it did!
As our storm pulls away, we do have a bit of a deformation zone forming (heavier band of precipitation over a storm’s western flank) over the Taconics and Berkshires which could produce a final burst of snow this morning or rain/snow mix, so watch for slippery spots where moderate to heavy snow develops for a while before everything quits by noon.
Highs will top out in the upper 30s to mid 40s and westerlies will pick up as the storm pulls away and high pressure moves in to increase the pressure gradient between the two features. This will produce winds gusting 15-30mph so it will be a bit blustery this afternoon as some sun tries to break out, with drying and clearing tonight as lows drop into the 20s.
Tuesday will see winds slacken, and highs climb into the mid 30s to low 40s under sunny skies, with lows in the 20s.
A cold front approaches Tuesday night with some snow showers possible into Wednesday morning, with highs Wednesday only in the mid to upper 30s.
After that high pressure develops to our south Thursday through Sunday with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs increasing into the weekend, making it into the 40s by the weekend’s end!
There are no big storm potentials until at least next Monday, so enjoy the incoming fair weather, and please post any snow reports below with amounts, intensity, etc. if you are seeing snow! I would love rain reports, too, thanks! Have a great day!
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
