Western Mass Regional Weather for August 8, 2022

Good morning folks, we’re starting out in the stew once again, so chop up some potatoes and toss ’em into my cauldron, because we’re gonna get cookin’ once again today.

We’ve got increasing chances for scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms Monday through the first half of Thursday prior to a sweet delicious cold front moving through our region and bringing much drier and comfortable weather by late week into the weekend, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, I don’t do much gigs anymore, but had a super fun time playing bass with Soul Magnets (an 8-piece killer funk ensemble) yesterday at a big fundraiser for the WMass Food Bank in Stockbridge, MA at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens in the early evening.

We played the DHTWN theme song live for the first time ever, which was super fun, but if you want to listen to it and purchase it for $1 (or larger donation, if you want) it all goes to support the WMass Food Bank.

You can check it here!

As for our weather this week, I am going to dish out double–dashes like they’re going out of style, look! Here’s a couple now!

–It’s going to be hot and humid again, as we’re still under the influence of a big ol’ Bermuda High
–Light southwest flow in an essentially tropical air mass will produce early August highs into the mid 80s to mid/upper 90s from north to south
–Some isolated showers or thunderstorms are once again anticipated for this afternoon and evening
–One flared up yesterday into EMass and caused some wind damage there, and while that is possible in the WMass region today, it’s pretty unlikely
–Any activity dies down after sunset (tonight is our last 8pm sunset until the 2023 warm season, so soak it up!)
–Lows will be quite warm, in the upper 60s to upper 70s with continued very humid conditions, with some scattered showers possible overnight
–Tuesday is the final day of this second, prolonged wave of 2022, though for some in higher terrain or more northern zones (portions of SVT and SWNH) the heat wave will break after today
–On Tuesday, our cold front will be sagging further south as a little wave ripples across it west to east
–This will increase clouds into the region, with more partly sunny skies expected with highs reaching the mid 80s to low 90s and continued very humid conditions
–Afternoon scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms are expected, and should increase in coverage in the evening, but again it will be scattered so not everyone gets wet
–Lows will sit down into the mid 60s
–Wednesday afternoon and night is the when the most widespread rainfall of this pattern is expected
–Again, not everybody gets wet, although if we are going to get some drought-denting rainfall, it will be on this day and night
–Highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s with continued humid conditions, and lows will be in the upper 60s
–As our cold front pushes south and through the region, periods of showers, downpours and t-storms will move in during the afternoon and likely last into and overnight Wednesday into very early Thursday
–On Thursday, any early morning showers give way to developing sunshine with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, and still somewhat humid, but it will be starting to break on this day
–Lows will drop into the upper 50s to low 60s, and then on Friday we completely change the air mass out the way it looks now, with highs in the mid to upper 70s Friday and Saturday, and upper 70s to low 80s on Sunday
–Lows will settle way down into the low to mid 50s
–Friday night is the time to open all the windows up and let the dry air flood the house or apartment
–Expect plenty of sunshine, much lower dewpoints and dry conditions through Sunday

AND REMEMBER…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
