Western Mass Regional Weather for August 19, 2022

Good morning folks, we’ve got some patchy fog out there, notably in Pittsfield, MA in the Berkshires this morning. Otherwise we’re mostly sunny with temps in the 50s and low 60s with dew points aren’t too far below those readings.

To summarize, we’re expecting plenty of sunshine today through Sunday with very warm to hot temps as we’re still simmering in summer, which will be followed an increase in humidity Sunday into Tuesday, and scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday prior to staying warm while we dry things out through the middle of next week, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning fine denizens of the Golden West, I wish for you all manner of goodnesses today, friendly encounters, good food, even greater health, progress on an enjoyable project, or completion of a challenging one.

As for the ethereal and energetic interface of Earth and Cosmos called our “weather”, we’ve got a 3-day summer resurgence on the way through Sunday, which will likely produce the 3rd heat wave of the 2022 warm season for a select few of us in the central and southern Pioneer Valley with some seeing high temps in the low 90s during all three days.

It won’t be like the first two week-long heat waves we’ve already endured, so do not worry about that.

In addition, I don’t expect Heat Advisories will need to be hoisted, given that dew points will somewhat behave and hang in the 60s to low 70s, vs. the low to upper 70s we dealt with earlier this Summer.

However, a heat wave is a heat wave (i.e. 3 consecutive days with high temps of 90º or higher), and for today high pressure will be scooting south of us and eastward off the Mid-Atlantic coast which will help generate southerly flow, mostly sunny skies, and highs in the mid 80s to low 90s with fairly comfortable humidity.

Lows tonight will sit down in the mid 50s to mid 60s from north (southern VT) to south (northern CT) under partly cloudy skies.

For Saturday and Sunday, we’ll again rise into the mid 80s to low 90s for highs both days, and humidity will be building during the weekend, especially by Sunday.

Each weekend day could spawn an afternoon isolated shower or t-storm, but most will stay quite dry under mostly sunny skies, with lows in the low 60s as our Bermuda high flexes its muscle out over the western Atlantic while driving warmer/moister flow into the region.

By Monday, an upper level system over the Great Lakes will send some energy and a warm front our way, which should produce mostly cloudy skies along with some scattered showers or thunderstorms during the day and overnight Monday night probably lasting into the first part of Tuesday.

The Monday, Monday night, and Tuesday period will feature the best chance for wet weather we’ll see over the next 7 days.

Highs will be cooler, only rising into the upper 70s to low 80s, and with lows in the low 60s once again.

Tuesday looks to be more of a partly sunny day with some scattered afternoon showers or thunderstorms, but hopefully we’ll be drying out by late afternoon into the evening as myself and my friends will be playing live music for “Performance 32” at Look Park at the Pines Theatre in Florence, MA in the annual tribute-band fundraiser to help sustain the Northampton Arts Council. It’s a super fun time, my favorite day of the year, and easily the best $12 musical dollars you’ll spend.

The theme this year is 90s music and bands, and I’ll be transforming into both Weezer and Jane’s Addiction with my good friends, so come on out and rock with us!

By the middle of the week, we should hang in the low to mid 80s and begin to dry out Wednesday into Thursday.

That does it for now, my friends, I hope you have a great day!

AND REMEMBER…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
