Good morning everybody, today and tomorrow look to be fair weather days for us in Western Mass, and then we could see some changes starting on Wednesday.

High pressure will be over us today, and moving off to the east tonight and tomorrow, which will open the southerly wind floodgates, bringing in warmer and more humid air to our region. To get the real hot summer weather in here, we need high pressure systems off to our south and east, which encourages hot and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico and southern states to stream up the Appalachian Mountain chain and into New England.

The weather feature that historically sets up during many Summers is called a Bermuda High. These highs are normally very large, strong, and fairly stationary, and are typically responsible for the heat waves we experience in New England. That feature has not happened yet, but Summer just began, so there is plenty of time for heat lovers yet.

As for our current weather, we will start to see increases in clouds over the next couple days, coupled with increases in humidity. A shower on Tuesday afternoon is not out of the question, but the main chance for showers and thunderstorms occurs on Wednesday.

As a cold front approaches, coupled with steeper lapse rates, and some mild instability, some of the thunderstorms could become strong with torrential rain and strong wind.

There is some potential for unsettled weather to continue right into the weekend, but for now, it’s expected to dry out again, with temps down into the upper 70s and partly sunny skies.

Have a great day!
