Northern New England will receive plenty of rain today, and as the cold front slowly approaches from the west, the southwest-to-northeast line of rain and storms will slowly collapse south toward Western Mass by around dinner time. Highs will be 85-90 today, and lows tonight won’t get much below 70 degrees as clouds and humidity keep the warmth locked in.

At this point in time there does not appear to be any severe weather threat. No hail is expected, but gusty winds are possible in thunderstorms, and torrential flooding rains. This is because of the slow eastern progress of the front, which results in “training” of showers and storms. Training refers to when showers and storms keep passing over the same location, resulting in heavy rain over a short period of time, which can cause flash flooding.

So tonight looks wet, and even though much of this weather activity translates east tomorrow, we will still see showers and possible thunderstorms in Western Mass, as well.

Friday begins to dry out as the cold front will have cleared our area, though morning clouds could hang tough.

The weekend looks fantastic, and much drier, with highs in the low 80s. Summer revs back up next week with some of the warmest and most humid air yet this warm season.

Have a great day!
