When we hear the term “severe weather”, it normally refers to severe Summer weather, such as thunderstorms, hailstorms, flash floods, microbursts and tornados. While Western Massachusetts can by no means be considered a “tornado alley” like the central and southern parts of the U.S., we certainly do experience funnel clouds, wall clouds, and occasionally tornados, as we saw with the Springfield Tornado of 2011.
