Good morning everybody, well that was quite a rainfall last night! Much more of the ground was revealed overnight, as rain and above freezing temperatures ate away at the snow. We will have some showers with us this morning, which will give way to mainly drizzle and occasional light showers through the afternoon, with overcast skies. Temps will only make it to the low 40s today, and will cool down to around freezing tonight.

Another low pressure system behind this first one will move back in to our area, and fire up heavier rain showers later this afternoon and evening. However, this time, the developing low will pull colder air in behind it as it moves east below the New England coast. At first, this colder air is very shallow and will change the rain to freezing rain, likely glazing trees and lawns first, and eventually roadways and walkways. Then the cold air layer will deepen from ground to sky, and result in sleet and even some snow possible overnight.

This means that we could wake up tomorrow with a coating of ice, sleet and snow and maybe even up to an inch of snow/ice in places. Wintry precipitation should be experienced the more north and west you go, which is why for now, only Berkshire, Franklin, and western Hampshire county as WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES posted.

None of this is long lived, as we get back up to 40 degrees tomorrow, and then the 50s and partly sunny weather Tuesday through Thursday!

Remember, it’s still late March. The timing of colder air draining down at night (when it’s coolest anyways) with precip in the area helps to foster our wintry weather.

So, be careful if you are out late tonight, and especially plan for some extra time tomorrow morning.
