DENSE FOG ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED REGION WIDE THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD… WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES ARE ALSO UP FOR BENNINGTON AND WESTERN WINDHAM COUNTIES IN SOUTHERN VT FOR ICE BY MORNING AND SNOW IN THE AFTERNOON WITH LIGHT AMOUNTS… RAIN SHOWERS WILL MOVE BACK IN OVERNIGHT, HEAVIEST ALONG/SOUTH OF THE PIKE… THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY IS OUR NEXT BEST CHANCE FOR A SNOWSTORM… 6:35pm Sat…
Good evening everybody, I hope you have been having a relaxing and peaceful New Year’s Day. If you had to work, hopefully you’ll get some down time soon.
As for our weather, the fog has been relentless, and continues for one more night into tomorrow morning.
Visibilities are already under a mile in many places, and will be dropping to a quarter mile or less at times, so keep the car beams low, and take it easy on the roads (no need to rush if you give yourself some extra time).
In addition, we’ll have a low pressure wave tracking south of us along a stationary boundary that will bring a batch of rain showers through overnight and into early tomorrow morning.
The heavier/steadier showers will fall in northern CT up into the southern Berkshires, Hampden County and southern CMass.
Lows tonight will be mild for most, except for the northern portions of SVT, where a cold front will begin its slow slide through the region tomorrow.
While many of us hang in the upper 30s to low 40s overnight, Manchester VT eastward to Townsend VT and points north of there will drop into the low to mid 30s, especially at elevation, with some freezing rain or sleet expected by dawn or a bit after, so watch out for icy roads way up that way in the morning.
For Sunday, a cold front will slowly make its way through the region from northwest to southeast, and after an early/mid morning lull in precip, showers of rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow (rainier south and east, icier north and west) should pick up by late morning and last through the afternoon intermittently.
A coating to inch of snow/sleet is possible in parts of SVT with some light ice glaze by evening.
Temps will fall during the day with highs reached in the morning, as colder air works in. Lows will drop into the teens, and highs on Monday will only be in the 20s.
But guess what? THE SUN IS COMING!!
I’ll trade the cold for some sunshine any way after this gloomy doom stretch.
Tuesday is seasonably cold and sunny, Wednesday is mild in the low 40s, and then we cool down with a cold front Thursday.
Thereafter, we’ll watch for a potential snowstorm on Thursday night into Friday as the most robust cold shot of our nascent Winter arrives (remember, Winter of 2021/2022 only started about 10 days ago).
Stay tuned for updates, and have a great night!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU!! BECAUSE WE MADE IT TO 2022 I HAVE SOME DENSE FOG ADVISORIES FOR YOU THIS MORNING, BECAUSE I’M THAT KIND OF GUY… MORNING SHOWERS GIVE WAY TO OCCASIONAL/ISOLATE SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON… FRONTAL WAVE BRINGS STEADIER RAIN TONIGHT, HEAVIER SOUTH AND LIGHTER NORTH… MILD ALL WEEKEND… COLD FRONT ARRIVES SUNDAY EVENING WITH WIND SHIFT AND MUCH COLDER AIR INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… AFTER A MILDENING, WE WINTERIZE BY LATE WEEK WITH WINTER STORM POTENTIAL… 7:00AM SAT…
Good morning everybody, I hope you had an enjoyable evening last night ringing in the new year, or perhaps snoozing through it. Either way, 2022 has arrived, and I want to start by saying how grateful I am to have been able to serve this community for another year, and hope to continue throughout 2022 and beyond.
As for our changeable weather, no new year would be complete with the employment and deployment of my relished, cherished double dashes to bulletize our weather details, which I will do below with haste.
SUMMARY
–Dense fog will keep visibilities down throughout this morning in a number of spots
–Morning scattered showers will add to the dreary ground cloud existence up to which we’ll wake
–Fog should either lift or weaken by afternoon as high temps rise into the upper 40s to low 50s, but I’m not holding my breath
–A few isolated afternoon showers or mist is expected, but steadier rain should hold off until tonight, arriving before midnight
–This will be in response to a storm sliding east off of the Mid-Atlantic coast and along a stationary boundary, which will ensure that the heavier rain falls along and south of the Pike, with lighter rains north of there
–Still, a wet night lies ahead with lows only in the low 40s, which is obviously very mild for this time of year
–For Sunday, any morning showers now look to give way to a break in the action with highs in the low to mid 40s
–A few sunny breaks are possible, but more showers will move back in during the early evening as a cold front approaches and moves through the region
–Some rain showers will turn to snow showers during Sunday evening as cold air works in, but no real accumulation is expected at the moment
–Lows will plummet into the teens and you’ll know when the front is through, as northwest winds will gust up to 25mph at times
–Monday is quite cold with highs in the 20s and lows in the 10-15º range, but at least we’ll finally see our star again and blue sky!
–Tuesday is seasonably cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s, again with more sunshine
–A warm front passes through, and we get back above 40º for Wednesday, but the late week period is the one to watch
–Much colder air looks poised to push back into the region, and storm signals continue to show up, and a major winter storm is possible
–The cold will be there, it seems, but do we get the track east enough to generate substantial widespread snowfall?
We shall see. For now, let’s figure out how to make our first day of 2022 a peaceful and enjoyable one despite the weather not cooperating.
Have a great day, and again, Happy New Year! May 2022 somehow make a turn into health and well being.
