Another cool, rainy, humid day for Western Mass

Good morning folks, here is your Friday Weather Summary:
–Very wet, humid, and cool day for Western Mass
–Showers, drizzle, downpours, and a thunderstorm possible
–Warm approaches today, could stall over us
–Cold front approaches tomorrow morning, may stall in EMass
–Cloudy w/ showers first half of Sat, clearing w/ sun second half of Sat
–Father’s Day looks beautiful, dry, breezy, and sunny

Well, yesterday’s weather was certainly not expected in terms of the heavy drizzle that we experienced. It formed due to an onshore easterly wind bringing low level moisture into our area, combined with warmer air aloft (in the higher levels of the atmosphere) that advected from the southwest creating an inversion, which trapped moisture at the surface.

Today, there are numerous heavy showers out to our west, which will slowly track northeast over our area, as a warm front approaches. Even when formal showers are not overhead, we could see drizzle, as plenty of low level moisture will remain, and another inversion is possible. If showers train for any period of time, combined with thunderstorms, we could see flood advisories and flash flood warnings issued, though not as likely as of this writing. A thunderstorm is possible, too.

We could see up to around 3/4s of an inch of rain today in showers, downpours, and some thunderstorms as warm front moves up and over us, followed by approach of cold front from the west.

It could be another cool day, as the maritime air has a strong influence over southern New England. This could cause the warm front to stall somewhere in Western Mass. North of the front could see temps remain in the upper 60s for highs, and south of it could get up into the mid to upper 70s. It’s going to be a wet, humid day for sure. Once the warm front clears our area tonight, we will be in the warm and humid sector of the air mass, and the cold front will bring more showers from out west over our area. As the cold front approaches from out west, thunderstorms are possible, though none will be severe.

The first half of Saturday could be cloudy with some showers, as the cold front is not going to clear our area as quickly as originally expected, again due to the strong maritime influence. However, the afternoon should clear out in Western Mass, although eastern MA and the islands could remain in the clouds for much of the day.

Regardless Father’s Day on Sunday is a beautiful, mostly sunny, drier day, with highs in the mid 70s, and northwest winds up to 20mph with fresher air.

As high pressure returns, we should get up towards 80 degrees on Monday, and then more showers and thunderstorms could be experienced next week in the afternoons, with partly sunny skies.

Have a great day, and a great weekend!
