Good morning folks, after a few snow showers late last night, we have a lovely day coming up. Winds are still up a bit, gusting 20-30mph (the top of that range occurring in the hills), and temps are generally in the 30s.

We will see a mostly sunny day with highs in the 40s to near 50 degrees (low 40s in southern VT/southwest NH). Northwest breezes will continue to slacken, and by afternoon it should feel quite pleasant out there.

For tonight, temps will drop into the mid 20s under initially-clear skies, but clouds will develop late as an upper level low and trough builds east-southeast toward New England, as our southern stream system with plenty of moisture slides east-northeast to the Carolina coastline.

Sadly for this snow lover, our upper level system is not going to “dig”, meaning it won’t be dropping more south-southeast toward the western Appalachians, allowing a pivot of the southern storm to come up the coastline and blast us with snow, which this would have done.

Instead, it has more of an easterly vector, and so will push most of the storm out to sea to our south.

Boo hoo for me! #SadFace

While I’m here, my too big for my britches comment was related to the past couple of days of my “Winter is over” blatherings.

Yes, I do believe it is about over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get some brief wintry reprisals of cold and snow/ice, so I’m just putting that out there.

Back to Friday… clouds will be thicken and lower, and some spotty rain showers are possible in the morning and afternoon, possibly mixing with a little snow early in the day in southern VT or the northern Berkshires.

Highs will be in the low to mid 40s, and lows will be in the 20s as any rain showers turn to snow showers over the region.

I don’t expect much accumulation at the moment, as it appears the southern stream storm will be usurping the energy from the upper low. The Cape and Islands have the best chance at up to an inch or snow or so.

For Saturday, the storm bombs out south of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, and with high pressure building in from the west, the gradient will create a breezy day with winds out of the north, and highs mid to upper 30s under mostly sunny skies. Lows will drop the low to mid 20s.

Sunday will be the pick of the weekend, and Sunday into Monday looks like a sweet, sunny, and milder stretch.

Sunday will feature highs in the upper 40s to low 50s with lows in the 30s, and Monday will feature highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, with lows in the low 40s.

Thereafter, we enter a showery period Tuesday into Thursday with at least 2 storm systems affecting us. I will detail those more as we get closer, but that’s how it looks now.
