Western Mass Weather for March 3, 2020

5:45pm UPDATE: [THUNDER POSSIBLE LATER TONIGHT… WIND ADVISORY FOR WORCESTER COUNTY TOMORROW] RAINFALL MOVING THROUGH THIS LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING WILL GIVE WAY TO A BIT OF A LULL WITH MORE SHOWERS AND MAYBE A THUNDERSTORM EITHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT BEFORE IT ALL QUITS BEFORE DAWN… WEST WINDS GUST 25-40MPH FOR WMASS REGION STARTING AFTER MIDNIGHT AND INTO WEDNESDAY, BUT UP TO 50MPH IN CMASS WHERE WIND ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED… (5:45pm Tues)

Good evening everybody, our showers have arrived on time, and they do sound quite lovely. It will rain heavy at times, as the bulk of this first wave passes through as of this writing. We’ll end up with a quarter to half inch of rain fall I believe, even though the attached graphic shows less than that.

Super Springy out there today, and this evening, to be sure.

Winter is over, folks. Sure, we could still get some snow or cold bouts, but it’s fleeting, on the way out. This writer sure is hoping for a better one next year, but I know there are pros and cons to everything.

As for tonight, this first #SluggaRain moves through, and then we get into some more isolated to scattered showers in a lull after say 7pm or so.

Then by midnight, the cold front will approach, and thunderstorms are already firing out in central PA and pressing east.

I don’t expect severe weather, but we could get some thunder and lightning in here late tonight, so don’t be surprised if that happens.

Lows tonight will dip into the upper 30s, and west winds will gust over 25mph after midnight behind the cold front into the morning.

Clouds will dissipate and sunshine will reign tomorrow as west winds gust 25-40mph in the WMass region, and will push 50mph further east into Worcester County.

Highs will reach the mid to upper 40s, with lows near freezing and continued breezy conditions at night, though not as strong during the day.

Thursday is sunny and in the 40s and our Friday into Saturday storm continues to look to go out to sea, with only the northern stream swinging through with some snow showers Friday afternoon and night, maybe some light accumulations from that on grassy surfaces.

Milder weather arrives by Sunday and into next week as southerly flow re-establishes itself in the region.

Folks, I really love doing this work, but like any other non-corporately sponsored independent resource, I need community support to continue making it my priority, so I can show up at any time, every day.

Good morning everybody, after a few showers last night, a very mild day is ahead!

Highs will reach the low to mid 50s in the Berkshires and southern VT high terrain areas, with upper 50s to low 60s in the Pioneer Valley and down into northern CT and central MA, especially in the Worcester area.

Sunshine will develop for a time today, but clouds will build late as another weak disturbance will track northeast through the region tonight.

Showers will arrive between 4:30-6pm and come through most likely in a couple of waves – the first early this evening, and the second before and around midnight. The rain could fall moderately to briefly heavy at times, and will ship on out of here before dawn tomorrow.

Lows will drop into the mid to upper 30s with patchy fog possible late.

For Wednesday, a cold front will have moved through and it will kick winds around to the west, and they will gust 30-40mph at times tomorrow under partly sunny skies and highs in the 40s to near 50 degrees.

Winds will slacken a bit tomorrow night, but still gust 20-30mph and lows will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s as high pressure works into the region.

It is also by tomorrow afternoon we should have a better idea of what will transpire Friday night into Saturday morning with our coastal storm.

Thursday is the pick of the week in terms of sunshine. Highs will be in the 40s under sunny skies and lows will sit down to near 30 degrees.

By Friday, we will be cooler with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s and at the very least watching a northern stream system press through the region with some rain and snow showers Friday night.

As of now the southern stream system looks to track flat and out to sea to our south and not interact with the northern stream system, but because we have a split jet stream flow to our west still, we need to be wary of guidance is spitting out still for solutions, and get a day closer to increase confidence.

So while a coastal snow storm is possible, it’s still a very low chance, and I will keep you updated.

Saturday looks cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s with a warming trend into next week, starting on Sunday.

There are two more possible signals for wintry weather through the middle of March, but time is rapidly running out, and it basically looks like Spring is springing, folks.

It can still snow in March, and even April, but it’s not looking likely.
