Western Mass Regional Weather Report for May 14, 2025

TODAY’S NUTSHELL: A slow-moving upper trough to the southwest of New England will take its time in lobbing areas of isolated to scattered showers our way over the next 4 days through Saturday night. Aside from some isolated downpours Thursday afternoon, a possible thunderstorm overnight tonight with a warm frontal passage, or a bit steadier/heavier period of rain Saturday afternoon or Saturday night, most of us should see under 1.5” of rainfall through the weekend. Humidity will increase Thursday and Friday, peaking on Saturday, and then we’ll dry things out and cool down into next week.

YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, we’re entering a period through Saturday at least where we’ll be dealing with more clouds than sunshine, though we should see a few breaks in the cloud deck at times.
Generally speaking in temps terms, we’ll be in the 60s to low 70s today and tomorrow, then well into the 70s to low 80s Friday and Saturday, and then back into the 60s by Sunday, and especially early next week, with lows in the 50s and low 60s.
For today, we have an upper low far to the southwest of us which is being thwarted by higher pressure still extending into eastern New England as it tracks further out to sea.
That means that while some isolated to scattered light showers are possible later this morning into the afternoon in western CT and southwest MA, many of us are more likely than not to stay dry, at least until tonight.
It is late this afternoon and into tonight when I expect more showers to move into our greater WMass region, especially along and west of the I-91 corridor. Don’t be surprised if you hear a thunder rumble overnight.
For tomorrow, we’ll see a warm front push through, and while a shower is possible in the morning, the better chance for scattered showers or even a downpour is Thursday afternoon, ending during the evening, leading to a drier period later Thursday night into Friday morning. In fact, we may have a nice sunrise on Friday morning, so here’s hoping!
Once we get to Friday afternoon, a storm will be tracking east through southern Canada and may extend an area of showers back into the greater WMass region, especially along and north of Rt. 2 in northern MA, SVT and SWNH Friday night into very early Saturday morning.
The finale of this scattered-showery set of circumstances will arrive Saturday afternoon and night when a cold front moves through the region, and it is during this time when we could see actual steadier and heavier rainfall for a time.
Exactly when the rain sets in and departs, I am not sure yet, but I will do my best to keep you updated as we get closer.
By Sunday, it should be breezy with actual partly sunny skies and a few instability showers possible as cooler air moves back into the region after a warm and humid stretch Friday and Saturday.
Highs will reach the mid 60s to low 70s Sunday with lows in the 40s, followed by cooler temps in the 60s for highs early next week under mostly sunny skies.
Have a great day!
