YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning folks, our temps bottomed out into the teens to low 20s overnight with a few upper single digits in southern VT. As high pressure strengthens due south of our region, a developing southerly flow is under way which will push our high temps into the 40s today under sunnier skies early with developing clouds as the day wears on. Some southerly gusts up to 20mph are possible later today.
For tonight, southerly breezes continue and clouds will increase with lows in the mid to upper 30s so the melting will continue with no black ice expected (watch out this morning though).
First isolated showers could come through at any point Wednesday morning, and to be sure, this is not a legit rainstorm with a stratiform rain shield.
It’s more of a warm-front / cold-front combo with the warm front moving through Wednesday, which not only brings to us a first batch of showers, but also places us into the storm’s warm sector as our storm is going to be WAAAAAY northwest of us.
Highs on Wednesday will correspondingly rise into the upper 40s to mid 50s with periods of showers most present during the afternoon, with heavy rain showers expected by late afternoon and evening into the overnight hours. Southerly gusts will increase to 25-40mph at times, and lows will hang in the mid to upper 40s!!
By Thursday morning, the cold front will be approaching and should focus more periods of showers into our region, some heavy, followed by the front sweeping through by early to mid afternoon and a cessation of showery activity.
Highs Thursday (prior to cold front sweepage) could run up into the mid to upper 50s! We may see some partial sunshine in the afternoon as well.
Behind the front, much cooler air in comparison to the mid-week period rushes back into the greater WMass region, and northwest gusts will move through in two batches.
The first set of gusts will probably hit speeds of 30-45mph Thursday night as temps crash into the 20s for lows, with some upslope snow showers in the Berkshires possible.
The second and more potent set of gusts will be Friday mid to late morning into the afternoon, when gusts could reach speeds of 35-55mph, which may produce some isolated power outages.
Highs Friday will reach the mid 30s to low 40s under mostly sunny skies lows in the 20s as winds die down at night.
This sets us up for a lovely and seasonably cool weekend with highs in the 30s to low 40s or so, and lows in the upper teens to 20s under partly to mostly sunny skies, with Sunday and Sunday night becoming the coldest period of that seasonable stretch.
We’re turning the corner into Spring, folks!
Have a great day and remember that my annual support drive ends in less than 2 weeks and I’m still 2/3rds to my 4% reader support goal, and any level of one-time or monthly support is helpful, thank you.
