YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION

Good morning, folks, thank you so much for all of your pics, vids, snow totals and condition reports from around the region yesterday, it’s very helpful in terms of understanding the truth on the ground!
From your reports, it appears that most of us received 4-8” as forecast, and as forecast there were some areas under 4” between or next to the heavier snow bands where sinking air sets up, notably in parts of Hampden County and eastern Hampshire County.
Please do post your final Monday morning snow totals in the comments below, but only do so if you measure with a ruler or yard stick because eyeballing totals can be misleading, and also leads to inaccuracies.
Please also send any morning snowy pics, it’s gorgeous out there!
The wind kicked up in this storm, which I didn’t really expect given that it was a fairly weak storm system that never closed off or was captured by its upper low, but it certainly provided for a stormy Sunday night.
Moving forward, the next weather story is the CCCCCOLD!
Realistically, this is not a record-breaking cold snap, nor it will it be a prolonged one, but it’s gonna be wicked cold nonetheless, lasting through Thursday morning.
Fair weather is expected this week in that I expect partly to mostly sunny skies and no precipitation, except for perhaps a few lake effect snow showers this afternoon in northwest CT up into the Berkshires, which could re-coat some surfaces, so be aware of darkening skies to the west if you out that way, and a couple may reach the valley as well.
Otherwise, it’s Arctic Hammertime.
And in case anyone was wondering (which would probably be about 0 of you), I’ve retired the idea of becoming the Arctic Hammer and entering professional wrestling. I coulda been-a contendah, but as it turns out, I’m a lover not a fighter, so there ya go.
For today, highs reach the mid teens to low 20s with west-northwest gusts of 15-25mph, so there will be a bit of blowing snow, and wind chills will be in the single digits, with lows tonight in the single digits above and below zero and wind chills as low as -15º in the Berkshires!
Tuesday and Wednesday will see a reinforcing shot of cold, Arctic air, resulting in highs rising only to the teens across the region with lows either side of 0º, and sub-zero wind chills at night at times. Again, partly to mostly sunny skies are expected, and it should be mostly clear at night as high pressure pushes closer.
By Thursday, strong high pressure will start to pass through and south of us, and that will lead to a moderation in temps with fair weather expected into Friday and likely through the weekend as well.
Highs will reach the mid to upper 20s on Thursday with lows in the single digits above zero, with highs in the mid 20s to low 30s Friday and Saturday, and then climbing above freezing by Sunday as this Arctic air mass relents and sweeps northeast and out of New England.
Before that happens, we’ll have a very wintry week ahead with fresh snowpack, a few snow showers today, some wind, and very cold temps ahead with wind chills (and air temps!) below zero at times.
By early next week, our next storm signal emerges and it could be a snowstorm or a mix of rain and snow, should it come to pass.
I will keep you updated through it all, as always… have a great day!
