YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning folks, it’s been a gusty-at-times morning once again, with max gusts since midnight up toward the 35-40mph range for a few folks, though mostly 20-30mph for the rest of us.
Temps are “up”, which is a relative term because it’s cold out! Still, lows in the 20s for many, and teens in southern VT could have been 10 degrees lower if it weren’t for the overnight wind, which keeps the air mixed and prevents radiational cooling, which allows heat to more optimally escape into Space.
A few flurries or snow showers continue in parts of the Berkshires this morning, but that activity should be abating today as wind flow direction changes in advance of a Mid-Atlantic snowstorm tracking closer to the eastern seaboard through tomorrow.
Highs today will reach the mid 20s to low 30s under partly sunny skies, with more clouds in the western high terrain west of I-91 in VT, MA and CT, and west-northwest winds will again gust 20-35mph before tomorrow’s low pressure weakens the pressure gradient and relaxes the wind.
Lows tonight will drop into the teens as we get a bit better radiational cooling under partly cloudy skies.
For Monday, we’ll see more clouds than Sun, especially south of the VT-NH/MA state line as a Mid-Atlantic snowstorm passes to our south and spread at least high to mid-level clouds into southern New England, and I can’t rule out a few flurries or snow showers in northern CT, but we likely all remain dry with highs in the 20s. Northwest winds may gust up to 20mph, but should be lighter than this weekend.
Lows, with less wind, will crash into the single digits to teens at night as the storm tracks out to sea and away.
Wind should pick back up at least in the Berkshires on Tuesday behind our departing system, with gusts to 30mph possible, along with a few renewed lake effect snow showers. Highs will reach the upper teens to mid 20s under partly sunny skies with lows again in the upper single digits to teens.
Wednesday through Friday look to feature high pressure with fair weather and mostly sunny skies with highs in the 20s Wednesday and Thursday, pushing up to the low 30s or so by Friday with continued blustery conditions, and lows in the singles to teens.
By next weekend, I am now watching a storm signal that either could bring a major snowstorm to the greater WMass region, or again track south of us, so I will keep you updated on that situation.
Hey folks, we’re still here, still up and taking nourishment as my father used to say, and that means we can still force an eyebrow raise and a slight smile in the face of any problems, which can help put a little more hope and pep in our steps.
Have a great day!
