YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, it is wicked cold out there once again, with temps in the singles and teens but with a southerly wind component developing today ahead of our next weak shortwave for tonight and early tomorrow, temps will rise up into the low to mid 30s.
Skies will start off mostly sunny, but mid to high cloudiness will develop ahead of our incoming shortwave, which may prove impactful to travel late tonight and for the early morning Monday commute. Lows tonight will dip into the 20s as clouds increase this evening with some light snow showers and/or freezing rain showers or freezing drizzle patches will develop before or by midnight.
Strong high pressure will supply a strong cold air drain into the region and help to dry up the eastern edges of this weak system on approach.
Still, Winter Weather Advisories are up in the Springfield to Hartford stretch and west through northwest CT due to an expected mix of light snow accumulation (maybe a coating to an inch mostly south of Rt. 2 in WMass and northwest CT) mixed with freezing rain, or prolonged freezing drizzle, which could cause icy slick surfaces to develop on roads, driveways, etc.
As you get into eastern Franklin County and northern central MA precip *should* be breaking up into very scattered, weak activity, though we’ll have to see how far east light snow or freezing rain makes it. Southern VT and southwest NH sees some light snow showers, maybe some coatings as it looks now.
So give yourself extra travel time especially in Hampden County, southern Berkshires, and north-central and northwest CT tomorrow morning.
This system essentially dries out and dives southeast Monday morning, and then we’re left with a milder day with highs in the mid to upper 30s with some sunny periods before our next cold front moves in Monday night. With southerly flow, temps will just hang steady with our highs turning int our lows into early Tuesday morning with more rainfall expected, maybe up to half an inch in spots.
Temps should spike for a day into the low to mid 50s on Tuesday behind the front, but due to its more zonal (i.e. west to east) flow, temps aren’t going to crash lower. Tuesday afternoon dries out and then we’ll clear out Tuesday night with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.
By Wednesday we’re watching ANOTHER fairly weak system in this zonal flow tee up and get set to move through Wednesday night into Thursday with more light snow and rain (snow likely along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor, rain south) with highs in the 30s by Thursday and sunshine developing, so we have three night-time systems to deal with for the upcoming work week.
Friday looks dry for now, but yet another system (this one potentially more amplified, strong and with colder air to work with) may move into our region Friday night into Saturday with a cooler weekend expected, so there’s lots of activity to stay tuned for!
Have a great day, folks, and due to requests I’ve relaunched my 2024 Hoodies, Shirts, and Hats apparel sale, as folks missed the deadline to order… the colors are awesome, the quality is wicked warm and cozy, and I’ve had not one complaint in 8 years (order link below):
