YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, please post those morning rainbow pics below if you got ’em!
Rainfall has pushed into our region, but the cloud deck on the leading edge of that rain came in a bit later than expected, which produced a wonderful sunrise and morning rainbow, which you don’t see often!
In addition, we have reports of sleet in far northern MA, and possibly some snowflakes mixing in over southern VT, but this icy precip will be short-lived as the rain shield continues to press east through southern New England.
It will be chilly and raw today with highs only in the 40s in areas north of the MassPike, whereas south of there there will be less rain, and it will be closer to the warm front, so mid 40s to low 50s looks more likely, maybe even some mid 50s in parts of northern CT.
Most of the rain will fall north of the MA/CT state line, and it will heaviest or steadiest along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor in northern MA, SVT and SWNH.
Periods of rain should continue into tonight as surface low pressure track east through PA, NY and eventually somewhere in the southern half of New England overnight.
Lows will drop into the upper 30s to mid 40s, and about half an inch to an inch or so should fall from north to south in the WMass/CMass up into SVT/SWNH regions, much less down into CT where a sharp cutoff is expected.
For Monday, the surface low will be pulling away, but the upper low will be tracking into and east of the Great Lakes, which will help push a cold front through our region by Monday afternoon.
Before that, some additional scattered showers with potential for a mix with snow or sleet in far northwest MA and SVT in the high terrain is possible, with drying by afternoon.
Highs on Monday will only reach the mid 40s along and north of Rt. 2, but rise into the low to mid 50s south of there with northwest winds gusting 15-25mph as colder air moves into the region behind the front during the afternoon and at night.
Lows Monday night will plummet into the upper 20s to mid 30s so frost is expected for some.
Highs on Tuesday under partly sunny skies will reach the mid 40s to low 50s under partly sunny skies, as a shortwave will be rounding the upper low as it tracks east, and could produce some upslope hilltown and mountain rain showers that may mix with snow in southern VT at night, with lows in the upper 20s to 30s.
Wednesday through Saturday look to feature high pressure building in with fair weather expected.
Wednesday and Thursday looks much cooler with highs in the 40s north (SVT, SWNH, mountains) and 50s south (Valley points south and east in MA and CT).
Lows Wednesday and Thursday night should produce more frost with temps bottoming out in the upper 20s to mid 30s.
By Friday and Saturday, our flow becomes more westerly and will warm us up into the low to mid 60s most likely, with some upper 50s in the high terrain, with plenty of sunshine expected.
Have a great day and post soup pics later, I’m (gratefully, and because of you) off to the grocery store, and if you want, you can help me make more soup by clicking below. Thank you.
