Western Mass Weather for March 23, 2019

SNOW SHOWERS END THIS MORNING, ALL WARNINGS/ADVISORIES ARE CANCELED… WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS GUST 35-45MPH TODAY WITH SUNSHINE DEVELOPING… GORGEOUS, SUNNY AND MILD TOMORROW… MIXED RAIN/SNOW SHOWERS MONDAY, COLD TUESDAY, THEN WE MODERATE AND REACH THE 60 DEGREES BY LATE WEEK OR THE WEEKEND… (7:35am Saturday)

Good morning everybody, well that was a weird storm to be sure. It was snowing to beat the band over the CT River Valley during the pre-dawn hours of this morning, but the downsloping drying wind wouldn’t allow it to reach the ground, and also dried out or lightened surface precipitation elsewhere across the region, unless I’m missing something.

Some totals verified on the low end of ranges, but I’d say overall this system definitely busted low from what I can tell. I’ve seen similar set ups DUMP snow. Clearly, I still have lots to learn.

Here are some snow totals:

Litchfield County, CT: 5”
Savoy, MA (northern Berkshires): 4”
Sandisfield, MA (southern Berkshires): 3”
Readsboro, VT (Bennington County): 7”

Others came in much lower. Anyway, you win some and you lose some, and I feel that I lost this one. Oh well, on to the next.

WINDS REMAIN THE STORY TODAY
West to northwest winds will gust 35-45mph today, and we already had a 51mph wind gust at PIttsfield, MA around 1am this morning.

Sunshine will develop with highs in the low to mid 30s in the high terrain with fresh snow, and low to mid 40s in the valley, where we got bupkis.

Lows tonight will plummet into the low 20s with west wind gusts to 25mph or so at times.

For Sunday, a southwest flow is established, and with plenty of sun we soar upper 40s over the high terrain, and the upper 50s in the valley! Sweet! Lows will drop into the low to mid 30s as we cloud up.

A cold front will drop south through the region and bring a mix of rain and snow showers through Monday morning. Some high terrain coatings are possible, otherwise not much to discuss.

For Monday, after rain and snow quits, partial sunshine develops with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s with lows bottoming out in the upper teens to low 20s under partly cloudy skies.

Tuesday is the final cold day in this recent unseasonably cold stretch with highs in the 30s everywhere, and lows in the teens everywhere under sunny/clear skies.

Then high pressure dominates the last half of the week with a southerly flow and highs in the 40s Wednesday, and 50s Thursday and Friday! We might even hit 60 over next weekend! Sunny skies rule through the late week period.

Please post any final accumulations or other reports below. Thanks very much!
