Western Mass Weather for February 15, 2019

QUICK FRIDAY EVENING UPDATE (6:10pm Fri)
Good evening everybody, we’ve got a few more mixed showers to move through this evening, and then we start to cool down and clear out for the weekend, before light accumulating snow works back into the region during the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning, lasting into Monday afternoon.

–For tonight, patchy dense fog is possible in southwest NH and possibly along/north of Rt. corridor in Worcester County and eastern Franklin County
–Rain showers will move through the region thanks to an incoming cold front, but should generally be light and scattered. Some snow may be mixed in as well
–Lows tonight will dip into the 20s, and west winds may gust to 30mph in the high terrain as the front moves through later on
–A beautiful weekend awaits with mostly sunny skies both days, highs in the low to mid 30s, and lows in the teens
–Sunday night we cloud up as a system approaches from the southwest
–Light snow should break out across the region by around midnight, and last through Monday morning
–For now looks like a Coating to 2″ storm, maybe a few 3″ amounts
–Tuesday looks mostly sunny and cold with highs in the low 30s and lows in the teens
–More substantial snow and ice is possible Wednesday into Thursday morning, and I will be focusing more on that over the weekend and will keep you updated on all of it.

Have a great night!

SNOW AND RAIN SHOWERS THIS MORNING TURN TO ALL RAIN TODAY… SHOWERS WILL BE INTERMITTENT AND SCATTERED WITH A VERY MILD DAY DEVELOPING… DRY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, WITH SOME LIGHT SNOW SUNDAY NIGHT POSSIBLE… MORE SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE STORM BY MID NEXT WEEK… (8:05am Friday)

Good morning everybody, showers of rain, sleet and snow are moving into the region, and will continue to do so throughout the day and evening. There will be lulls in the action, and any wintry precip types this morning will change over to rain before noon as highs rocket into the 40s.

For tonight, more scattered showers are possible before quitting by midnight as the frontal boundary pulls away to the east. Lows should drop into the mid 20s.

The weekend looks gorgeous and seasonable! HIghs will be in the low to mid 30s with plenty of sunshine, with lows in the teens.

We cloud up Sunday evening, and may get a period of light snow in here that lasts into Monday morning with light accumulations possible.

Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening looks fair and cold, and then we watch for Wednesday into Thursday.

A storm system will be tracking west-southwest to east-northeast into the region and may bring accumulating snow with a change to ice.

OVERALL PATTERN NOT CONDUCIVE FOR BIG SNOWSTORMS
Because the jet stream off of the Pacific Ocean is ripping strong and very zonal (i.e. west to east in orientation, and not wavy with more south to north undulations) we can’t get big coastal storm development going, which brings the bigger coastal snowstorms to New England.

The overall pattern just has not been able to setup this winter due to this reason, and also because of a southeast ridge that has waxed and waned. When the ridge is flat (waned) and to the south, we get these flat trackers with snow to ice, and when the ridge flexes (waxed), we get cutters to our west, with more rainy events.

There is the chance for some colder and stormier conditions very late February into the first couple weeks of March, but we must take that with a grain of salt. We shall see.

That’s how it looks now folks, hope you have a great day!
